This is our sweet baby Chief and we were told he was Rhodesian/Lab mix but when we took him to vet, they thought he might be Mastiff/Pit mix. Just looking for opinions please before we do a DNA kit as both my husband and I are very curious now.

Rhodesian ridgebacks are not a common breed and shelter mixes - at least in this part of the country - would be rare.

Labs and pits, on the other hand, are quite common so my vote would be that mix.

It's really hard to make a guess from those photos. Also, I really suck at breed guesses. Honestly, most vets and shelters do, too.

We did the Embark DNA tests on our most recent rescue as well as my daughter's and son's dogs. All were mystery dogs. We were pretty happy with the detail of both medical anomalies and breed mixes. The tests aren't cheap, but they periodically run sales.

Kind of hard to tell from these pictures, since I can't see his body, but he looks a lot like a Black Mouth Cur to me.
