I highly recommend that you have your friend join a canine addison's support group. S/he can communicate with folks who have a lot of first hand experience and who can refer him/her to appropriate reference material in their library. It's a life threatening condition for which treatment can best be facilitated safely and effectively by an experienced vet and an educated pet owner.
