. . . (the one who claims not to like our dogs) before she left for Minneapolis to see our son.

Girls went to the beach before I left and had a piece of liver sausage, and I gave them fresh water. I also turned the a/c on in the bedroom and left the door ajar so they could take a nap in their beds. Also put the a/c on in the family room for them.

The girls seem sad. Make sure they get to the beach early in the morning before it gets too hot. They like a small ice cream cone afterwards.
No wonder they seem sad. They've spent every minute with her while she's been home recovering from shoulder surgery. She's learned to throw the tennis ball left-handed for them. She gives them ice cream, liver sausage and watermelon and takes them everywhere. They sit with her while she works in her garden (and watch for rabbits.) And now she's taking a couple of days off and they're stuck with me.

You and your family and furkids are very lucky to have such a caring person in your life. This is my favorite post for today.

I love that she treats them like little kids! Lol! :) If a stranger were to read that ... they would think you had two toddlers!

Toddlers wouldn't be allowed to sleep in our room.

We're headed for the beach now. When she calls tonight, that'll be the first thing she asks about. I'm not too worried about the heat. It's Lake Michigan. The water is still about 50 degrees.

LOL
They all secretly like the pets.
My mother is that way. Claims to dislike all my pets but can be found sneaking into my room at night to give the rats a cracker, she holds outright conversations with the fish and the cat and does everything in her ignorant power to get Aleu to 'talk' to her and do her tricks.

We went to the beach and had a great time, but no ice cream afterwards. (They're looking at me like they might report me for cruelty.) I didn't want to ruin their dinner. (If you could see them eat, you'd understand the humor in that statement.)

Another change around her is that wet dogs were not allowed in the house (in the olden days.) With her double coat, Esther would take about three days to dry.

Now, "It's much too hot for them to stay outside." (It's 86 here - hardly tropical.) So there are two wet dogs at my feet. I don't personally have a problem with the smell of wet dogs. I find it comforting, actually. My dog in Santa Barbara was, like me, wet most of the time. She was a beach dog and a SCUBA dog. But the fact that my wife will now tolerate it is almost certainly an early sign of the coming apocalypse.

Very sweet!

That's kind of how my dad was with every animal we had growing up, and the replacement children my mom has now. He pretends to not like them, but in the end he spoils them the most!

That sounds like something I would get left from my husband, very cute. I think she found her bind with them.

Ron, this post really made me smile. I hope your wife's shoulder is healing, hope she enjoyed the visit with your son. I hope you survive your time with the girls, or maybe that should be vice versa? Enjoy some ice cream with them, life's short!

What a sweet note, with all the AC and treats!

Reminds me of my FIL who is very old-school when it comes to dogs (they are animals not pets) but after 2 weeks with us he was getting them to sit when he thought no one saw him!!!

The first night we had Carmie my 12 yr old son put a note on his door, "No dogs allowed." He said he liked her but didn't want her up on his bed. It wasn't long before he was calling her onto his bed to likc his face! My husband washed his hands after petting her for the first 3 days. Now she licks his feet. We LOVE the dog!!! I mean, I'm really surprised at how much we love her.
