Our 9 week old lab puppy is chewing and biting on everything, especially us and kids. We have tried ignoring her, yelping like a pup if she bites us and she just does not seem to care, it actually seems to excite her more. Do puppies tone this type of behaviour down any time soon, is she doing this because she is a pup or did we get a monster for a pet, lol. Any advice would be great. I should mention we have lots of toys for her, nylabones, kongs, ropes, etc. She chews on them for a millisecond and then comes searching for a chair, table, arms, legs, you name it.

Welcome to the world of owning a puppy, especially a lab, which are very "mouthy" dogs.

It gets better with age. Find things she is allowed to chew. Invest in some strong chew toys and LOTS of bitter apple (it saved some of our furniture, but not all) and be prepared to say goodbye to some things. (oh, the shoes I've mourned! And I don't have a lab)

Most dogs understand the Yelp! and ignoring but, some don't. You'll have to take it to the next level. Next time she bites, Yelp and stomp your foot on the floor....(Not on her!). If she got the message, she should back up/away from you. Now, redirect her to a toy or other chew and praise....always, always praise for choosing the right toys/chews to play with.....you weren't missing that part of her training were you?

What really worked for me was putting something that your dog is obsessed with like peanut butter and smearing it on the chew toys!

Also you could try giving it some more exercise! It might be bored!

Yeah, I'll add that we would exchange something she shouldn't be chewing for something of hers that she was allowed to chew, and at the same time gave her a treat.

Does that make sense?

So, say she had a shoe, she was first offered a treat, then we took away the shoe, and replaced it with her rope toy.
