Hello, my sheltie/aussie mix is 16½ weeks old and just started her first heat. She has been urinating more, acting lazy, rolling on her back, and dried blood spots in between her legs.

Is this too young for a heat cycle? She is already petite for her age, about 18 pounds but healthy body condition. Will this stunt her growth?

Thanks.

Seems kind of early to me too. Are you sure it's a heat? Is her vulva swollen to several times it's normal size? I had one get a UTI right at the end of a heat once, and that made me discount frequent urination and blood that were from the UTI until it was pretty severe. So be sure to look for all signs of true heat.
