My 11month old puppy is fully house trained and has been since a month after we got him. About 2 weeks ago he started dribbling dilute urine in his sleep. He drinks on average 21 cups of water/day. All labs, urinalysis, urine culture, bile acid test have been picture perfect. He doesn't do it when he's awake and we let him out at least every 2 hours. Any ideas why would he be doing this?

21 cups of water a day? What kind of dog is he? That's a lot of water. How much pee is actually coming out? One thing I would consider is that he's hit puberty and it's not actually "water" ;) unless it's a significant amount. Is he neutered?

he's a chocolate lab. He's been neutered. And i can tell the difference between "that" and pee :p he's dribbling quite a bit- more than the little droplets after he "hit puberty" he's leaving big wet spots on the floor and it goes through my comforter, blankets, sheets, etc. My husband said he picked up his water after supper last night and he didn't dribble during the night. The vet also said he didn't drink much or dribble when he was there all day for tests- i attributed that to the fact that he was anxious about not being at home and with us. Of course we need to find out if its OK for us to pick up his water after dinner- if there's something wrong, his body may need that extra water. I'm stumped.

Unless you're exercising him after dinner, there shouldn't be a problem with restricting his water intake in the evening in order to get this problem under control. As long as he's not really "thirsty", he'll be fine. I slow mine down after 7pm, then stop him after 9pm. He's seven months old. He'll have a small drink around nine, but just a bit. As long as you know he's healthy, go ahead and cut it back some.

yeah we just got the adrenal test back today and that came back perfect as well. I didn't know if other people picked their dogs water up after a certain time. I asked my vet if i should do that when this all started and she said don't take it away cuz he needs it! But i agree- everything has come back fine and she said a dog his size should only need probably 10-15cups/day. Thanks for your input- hopefully the dribbling stops!
