Hi guys, My American Akita (1yo) has suddenly become obsessed with my 2 year old daughter, constantly following her round trying to lick her, i have 3 children but he’s only really interested in my youngest. He’s always been brilliant with them (although I would never completely trust him) I’m...
So my dog, Bear, is a big girl who has recently started chewing holes in her paws because she's overly bored. She doesn't even play with toys. I feel so bad for her, I try to take her out as much as possible, but she is very powerful and will lunge for any dog that she sees. Plus when she's on...
I've always owned cats, never dogs, i recently took in a pregnant stray akita dog (shes a giant, but gentle) so any advice is greatly appreciated.
hi everyone,
i have a 14 month old male japanese akita. he is the sweetest guy, loves people and animals. the akita was neutered 10 days ago, but ever since he was a puppy he has been SERIOUSLY insecure when we leave the house. it started off with just complete destruction of the entire house...
I know these dogs shed but this is just out of control </3
I brush her for 30 mins every day broken into 2 times of 15 mins. We also give her salmon oils and a 'shed control' in her food. I use 3 kinds of brushes as well. Wire, kong rubber, and to finish I use the furminator lightly.

Kuma stole my glove after the snow storm and he wouldn't give it back. He kept running around and got snow in it. Eventually didn't want it back since it was full of snow. Thanks Kuma

What are your opinion on the three dogs that I listed in the title? Are they good dogs to own? I own an Akita at the moment and a hound mix, and have owned other dogs before this one.
Check out some videos of my Akita, Kuma. Theres multiple videos including him running around in the snow and trying to attack other dogs on the TV. Let me know what you think

There are awesome videos of an Akita on this channel, including him attacking the TV. Please check it out
Does anyone's Akita groan when he's real happy to see someone. Mine sounds like hes doing this deep growl thing, and he always needs a toy in his mouth. I've been trying to get it on film but I haven't had the time.
Please check out my link to watch videos of my Akita. I have recently uploaded a video of him chasing my other dog around after a blizzard, and of him attacking the dogs on TV. There are many other of him too. I would appreciate any views
Thanks!!!
I looked for a Thread w/ this topic and really couldn't find one so.....
sorry for the long lead in!
In the warmer months we hike w/ our American Akita 'Dru' and take Butterfly and Insect photographs.
This usually comes down to her walking/hiking w/ Dru and me stopping to get shots and catching...
They are considered one breed in the US, but pretty much everywhere else they aren't.
I came across this picture that, to me, summed up just how different they are in their built.

I was wondering though, why are they...
Haven't posted any shots of Dru, our American Akita in a few months.
Here he is at 21 months and 100 pounds.
He's 'guarding' the Holiday Ornaments.
We have had some adventures for sure.
Having raised a Shar-pei we 'thought' we knew possessive dogs.
His Separation Anxiety is lessening.
We can...
Long way around to a question but... first some background.
The first of May we 'adopted' Dru our Son's 15 month old Akita.
His work schedule and living arrangements meant Dru spent WAY too much time crated or at day care.
Not enough exercise and this lead to some destructive habits.
He is...
Hi New to forum,
My Japanese Akita has small bumps that I can feel on her snout. Not a lot of them but around 3 or 4. She doesnt seem to be in pain or irritated by it.
Visually I cant see anything except brown spots where the bumps are and the hair a little matted and swirly.
Should I be...
Last August we said good-bye to our 11 year old Shar-pei Wu.
This was the first time we had been a one dog house in 30+ years and the silence, for me, was deafening.
My partner had had enough and decided 'No more dogs'.
I thought that once the grief lessened we would once again go looking for a...
