  1. Recently Adopted Heeler - Food Journey

    Dog Food Forum
If he's over his ideal weight, then simply cutting back the amount he gets could solve both issues. Another thought.... Have you tried FortiFlora? It'a a probiotic designed especially for dogs, and can help with loose stools if they are caused by not having enough good gut bacteria.
  2. Are Bouillon Cubes safe for dogs?

    Dog Food Forum
How do you even go about finding a nine year old thread to post on? Anyway, unless your dog is extremely sensitive to garlic, small mounts are unlikely to cause any harm. https://www.akc.org/expert-advice/nutrition/can-dogs-eat-garlic/
  3. Seriously need some help with this

    General Dog Forum
Another thought... you don't mention what her body condition is, but if she's losing weight, or extremely hard to keep weight on, then testing for Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency might be a good idea. Dogs with EPI are frequently compulsive stool eaters.
  4. Seriously need some help with this

    General Dog Forum
You're right that this behavior is outside the normal range of poop eating. One of the first things I would suggest is asking for a referral to a board certified veterinary behaviorist to determine if there is an underlying psychological issue that needs to be addressed. Meanwhile, I would...
  5. Liver cancer symptoms

    General Dog Forum
I'm so sorry. I lost one to what was probably a ruptured hemangiosarcoma. Fine on Friday, a bit off on Saturday, obviously not feeling well on Sunday, at the vet on Monday, then back at the vet and euthanized on Tuesday. She was only seven, and we still had things to do.
  6. Recently Adopted Heeler - Food Journey

You can take a stool sample in without having to take him, as well. That way, you can get a test done every couple of days, to see if something shows up. Just use a pick up baggie.
  7. Recently Adopted Heeler - Food Journey

    Dog Food Forum
One of the first things I would try is to simply give him a bit less food, as overfeeding can cause loose stools. Another thing to consider is that he could have intestinal parasites, like coccidia or giardia, both of which can be hard to detect. It often takes several fecal tests before they...
  8. How tall will this 4 month old Puppy get?

First Time Dog Owner and Basic Questions
I adopted a stray puppy that I was hoping would be in the 75 pound range as an adult. I wound up with a 48 pound dynamo that I wouldn't have traded for the world. That said, if you really want a larger dog, then go with one that is either a purebred or a crossbred that you know what breeds...
  9. Parkour fun (and two new titles)

    Dog Sports/Show Forum
I got word yesterday that the girls are 4/4 with their All Dogs Parkour entries this month. Both earned a Level 3 Premier leg, bringing them to 8 out of 10 legs for their Level 3 Premier titles. Also, both earned their Level 1 Grand Championship titles. Only one leg is required for this title...
  10. Teaching puppy that former family member poses threat

    Dog Training Forum
I'm sorry that you are going through this. As DaySleepers said, trained Personal Protection dogs (and even protection sport dogs) can be considered a weapon, depending on where you live. It takes thousands of hours of training, as well as the right personality, to make a PP dog. Most dogs...
  11. What are your thoughts on shock collar training?

    Dog Training Forum
Not repeatable in polite company. On the other hand, other people routinely use it, and wouldn't train any other way. There are some situations where if can be a decent solution, but only when the dog has already been trained, and the e-collar is there just to back up that training.
  12. How tall will this 4 month old Puppy get?

First Time Dog Owner and Basic Questions
Pretty baby! Do you have any idea what breeds are in the mix? He looks like some of the Border Collie x Great Pyrenees crosses I've seen that range anywhere from "larger BC size" to "smaller GP size".
  13. Glowing or light-up discs/balls?

    General Dog Forum
I wonder if they still make the Fetch-n-Flash ball? It reacted to motion by blinking, and after stopping, would continue flashing for several minutes.
  14. cat poop problems

    Dog Training Forum
Good luck. I've tried for years to prevent my dogs from eating cat poop. You might try a litter box with the entry in the top, or one that has a vestibule. The latter can be pretty pricey, though.
  15. Insurance dog for related damage

    General Dog Forum
Check your homeowners or rental policy. If they don't cover it, then you might be able to get a rider or umbrella policy to cover any damage your dog causes to other people and/or their property. And I hate electronic fences for several reasons, one of which you mentioned. If you can, put up a...
  16. My mom wants to marry her dog and have puppies. What would she do?

    General Dog Forum
Honestly, most dogs shouldn't be bred. I like this visual to decide on whether or not to breed a dog, especially if you don't have someone experienced who can help you.
  17. Aggression or Jealousy, Stubborn or Confused?

    Dog Training Forum
It sounds like the puppy has some pretty serious resource guarding going on. She doesn't want him near "her" things, be it you, food, or the bed. Redirecting her frustration at not being allowed out of the crate immediately is very concerning. This is an issue that can't be solved by random...
  18. Clicker charging issues

    Dog Training Forum
As mentioned, the "time line" is behavior - mark - reward. The behavior can be lured (using a treat to coax the puppy into position), captured (puppy does what you want on its own, so you reward it), or shaped (puppy is encouraged to do something by having small bits toward that behavior...
  19. What mix can she be?

First Time Dog Owner and Basic Questions
Well, they might not know either. And if you're like me, with a tendency to pick up strays from parking lots and roadways, there won't be anyone to ask.
  20. Possibly getting a Samoyed. Is this the right thing to do?

    General Dog Forum
Knute, it took me a minute to realize that you were talking to the OP, who hasn't been on since 2012, and not the new poster who revived the thread.
