  1. Destructive Dog Tips

Thanks! Our challenge is that we haven't crated him since September, so are not sure if it's 'still' anxiety or now just boredom. He hasn't injured himself since that one time with the crate (which was the last time he was in the crate). Do you still think it's anxiety after this amount of time?

Thanks! Sounds familiar. I'm actually not sure if he has separation anxiety or energy based. Is there an 'easy' way to tell? When we're home, we have now taken down all the barriers to rooms, opened doors and he wanders, but usually comes back to the room with us in it (when he doesn't I go...

Thanks! would that be for indoor or outdoor? We do have a fully fenced backyard that he loves to run and run in - but I am not comfortable leaving him out all day without supervision.

I've heard of these - thanks for the suggestion. He's been left in a room before (master and closet), and has done major destruction to those rooms, do you think the pen idea will feel less confining than a room? Also - with the crate he was the reincarnate of the great Houdini and was able...

Howdy! My husband and I rescued a sweet (very energetic, playful) black pooch in August after losing our 14yo Golden. We had a 6 yo golden that needed companionship and love having two dogs. He was a stray in a high kill shelter in Texas, and the rescue organization listed him at 'large'...

I love this - so true too. ha! Thanks guys. All good things to consider. Crazy thing - at my check in at lunch, they were both super chill. In fact, the newbie Rigel went out his little doggy door (self created by busting through our screen day 1...) and barked, just the once. I went to...

Thank you both! I will be very interested in how he does in doggy day care too. Fingers crossed he has a grand ole time (and gives Lyra a little break). :)

Hi All, Our pack includes a 6yo golden (Lyra) and a 1ish rescue (Rigel). We've had Rigel for a little over a month now and he's adjusting to his new pack. Rigel is a very active dog and wants to play all the time with Lyra. He's constantly chasing and jumping on her while inside and out...

  11. Happy Day !!! (first trip outside the neighborhood with new doggy family member)

    Dog Training Forum
Oh happy day! About a month ago we adopted a sweet rescue Rigel (mid size energetic 1yo), and have been keeping him pretty close to home (walks around the neighborhood, one trip to our vet for a meet and greet) while we get to know him and his personality. He's shown leash aggression while...

Good idear - but I worry that since he's actually harming himself now trying to get through the plastic ties metal ones might do real damage. :(
  15. Crate (or other) Suggestions for Houdini...

    Dog Training Forum
We have the plastic travel crate (two latches, more 'den' like) and the wire mesh crate (one door double sideways latches). We only used the metal version a couple of times, because he escaped pretty quickly from there by pushing the bottom panel out and sliding out under the door (I swear he...

I'm going to write a short story called "The Great Crate Escape" from the dog's POV. I think he sees all the different jerry-rigs I've been trying with zip ties as a puzzle to figure out. Again after zip-tying his exit strategy from yesterday - he was able to get out and was waiting for me by...

Love it guys! Our Vet said she sees a little Aussie (merleing and shape?) - but she also said because he's a Texas stray (and we love Texas, it's my mom's home state, she's pleased as punch to have another Texan in the fam) that he probably has a little Pittie or Stafordshire in him. I...
