  1. Dog Barking at Other Dogs to Get Them to Play

    General Dog Forum
Hard to say for sure by your description - that is all totally normal playful activity - but if the dog on top isn't switching to let the other dog play the dominant, depending on the other dog, it could get aggressive quickly. Perhaps the other owner knew that about her dog and separated them...
  2. Cesar Millan - is he for real???

    General Dog Forum
I don't consider these exchanges arguing, although there are definitely some here posting to get a rise. The threads on this forum often flesh out common perceptions, attitudes, myths, mistakes, contentious issues etc;- and this is both helpful and informative to me. As for your comment "If it...

What a great post! Thank-you for taking the time.
  4. Alternate breeds suitable for lightweight sled pull, skijoring, etc?

    Dog Training Forum
Hello, I always hear about the usual northern sled breeds, but what other breeds might be suitable and interested to be trained in these kinds of winter activities? Not for racing or actual work, but just to help foster a bond and exercise them physically and mentally.
  5. Cesar Millan - is he for real???

    General Dog Forum
Funny photos and South Park aside, Cesar bashing is easy but not fair. If people misunderstand and misuse his techniques, how can you blame him for that? Anyway, I care about dogs and I care about what works - and a lot of his stuff works. Period.
  6. Dog Barking at Other Dogs to Get Them to Play

    General Dog Forum
Barking is normal, but barking excessively or to demand things for example, is not and does need to be tolerated - it is behaviour that can be fairly easily changed. There has to be awarenesss and willingness in the owner to do so however.
  7. Cesar Millan - is he for real???

    General Dog Forum
And your point is? The debate is ongoing, and I see no reason to start a new thread when much of the issues can be found here. Anyone can type in Cesar Millan and will be brought here.
  8. Cesar Millan - is he for real???

    General Dog Forum
Cesar bashing is understandable but regrettable, given his major success and popularity. But let's address particulars here. What evidence do you have that the dog is over stressed and broken by Cesar's techniques? That they by in large display a noticeable shift from various states of distress...

You're right. Only in the sense that Sammys have a certain temperment and energy level. But it could work well with many other breeds too.

Hi. I was talking one puppy and one young adult, not two puppies. And only one at a time to get settled first. The breeder is fully reputable and recognized - shows etc - Vanderbilt Samoyeds - http://www.vanderbiltsamoyeds.com/02/home.html The plan would be a puppy from them, and a young adult...

Thanks. I would be able to handle a Sammy pup right now as I am unemployed - and second floor isn't too bad - plus emergency newspaper spot in case. I'm in contact with a Sammy breeder as we speak, and she feels that in my situation, either I put her into doggy daycare once I start working...

I might actually - was just thinking that fostering can lead to adoption, at least in my case, so I might want to be more selective about the dog than if I was just fostering and returning the dog. I don't know it's a toughy. Cool test. Thanks. Looks like the same stuff keeps popping up. The...

Hi Tavi, Nice to hear from you. Wasn't sure if post would be seen by anyone. I have dog experience, but have never owned. I have been dogsitting and walking for several years now - various breeds, ages, both male and female - as well as reading plenty, listening to audiobooks and podcasts, and...

Hello, What do you think are a few suitable breeds than can handle both my condo (1000 sq ft) but also 2 hour-long cross-country ski adventures in the forest out in the countryside? I'm thinking medium-sized, medium-energy breeds right? Any suggestions, and maybe reasons why, would be very...
