  1. New "agility classes" thread

Molly looks great! Good luck dogsule at your upcoming trial. Goal for 2019 is to actually get out there and enter Renegade in trials. Agility skills wise, he is waaaaaaaay past ready to start trialing. Now he just needs to gain experience and exposure to trial pressures and performing in new...
  2. New Standard Poodle Puppy - Name TBD

    General Dog Forum
He's absolutely precious!! I would love to own a Standard Poodle someday when I decide I'm ready for that kind of grooming. Looking forward to watching him grow up.
  3. The ultimate sport dog breed?

    General Dog Forum
I would agree with the Malinois. They tend to be a jack of all trades, master of many. Though a nicely bred German Shepherd is also incredibly versatile and can do well at most sports. They also tend to be less insane for those who don’t want to go to the level of a Belgian.
  4. What breeds and size/s of Dogs does everyone have?

    General Dog Forum
Renegade German Shepherd Dog 3yrs old 85lbs ~26” at the shoulder My bestest boy ever. Love him. Rio Border Collie 1yr old 33lbs I think anywhere from 17-19” at the shoulder. I need to get an accurate measurement for him. A bundle of crazy. But fun, lots of fun.
  5. Newbie agility question(s)

    Dog Sports/Show Forum
I know you said you don’t want to burn her out by practicing too much but you may find it beneficial to do a little bit of just jump work. One thing I’ve noticed in agility is that we often overlook jumps and don’t reward them as often as the contact obstacles. Some dogs just need more value...

Laurelin- Hank looks really good! Nice control there for such a speedy little dog. He listens to your handling really well in that video. Fable looks so happy and excited. Some really good stuff in there for a puppy. She looks great! I haven’t even started my young dog in agility yet. We’ve...
  7. Disc Dog thread

CptJack- That looked like an awesome first round of Toss&Fetch! Kiran has some serious jumping skills. I love watching his floofy tail wave in the air when he brings the disc back. He seems like he’s going to be a really fantastic disc dog. Do you have any plans to do freestyle or are you going...
  8. Disc Dog thread

    Dog Sports/Show Forum
Whoops! It’s been such a busy week I completely forgot to update. The UpDog trial was fantastic!! We didn’t even do very well in two out of the three games we played but I am completely thrilled with Renegade. He tends to have some pretty big focus and stress in new locations and...
  9. Disc Dog thread

    Dog Sports/Show Forum
We’re probably going to enter our first UpDog trial tonight! It’s a small evening trial only offering four games. There’s several people I know from Toss&Fetch going as well so I think it is a good opportunity for me to try it out. The games still confuse me so it might be a big failure but at...
  10. Disc Dog thread

    Dog Sports/Show Forum
I want to try out the Hyperflite competition standard discs and see if I like them at all. I’ve thrown one a few times without a dog and liked it. It’s pretty cheap per disc to buy the misprints in either 50 or 100 at a time. It’s a good idea to save the flimsier discs for competitions. I need...
  11. Disc Dog thread

    Dog Sports/Show Forum
And I thought the 10 discs I bought at one time was a lot. Most of which now need to be replaced. I plan to buy misprints/uglies in bulk at some point too. Renegade is very hard on his discs and wants to tug with them. He’s too strong for me to keep a grip on the slobbery things.
  12. Hiking Pics: Ren and Rio

    Dog Pictures Forum
Thank you everybody! Hiking is definitely one of our favorite activities. Hopefully we get to go a bunch more before the next semester starts and life gets more hectic. I may add more pics to this thread, I have a ton. I just figured it out recently myself so you’re not alone. I uploaded mine...
  13. Hiking Pics: Ren and Rio

    Dog Pictures Forum
I recently went on a short hiking trip with Renegade and Rio and it was beautiful. Not quite as awfully hot as it has been recently. This particular trail is one of my favorites with plenty of shade and water for the dogs to cool off in. Here are some of my favorite pictures that I took. I'm...

*ETA: After typing all of this response out and rereading it, I realize it doesn’t actually answer your question of how many is safe/healthy to catch but I’m going to post it anyway because it could be useful to someone somewhere who may read this thread. That’s a good question. I’m certainly...
  15. New craft project

    Dog Pictures Forum
That looks awesome! I’ve been super into sewing cute martingale collars recently. I’d love to try something in paracord at some point. Did you make up the design yourself or find it online?
  16. New "agility classes" thread

    Dog Sports/Show Forum
We’ve been at it now for right at a year (Gosh, it doesn’t feel like it’s been that long already). We’ve been doing full courses for maybe 6 of those months? In our class we run the course, break it down into small sequences, discuss them, practice each sequence with a few different handling...
  17. New "agility classes" thread

    Dog Sports/Show Forum
CptJack, those runs look awesome! I love how excited and happy she looks. Her turns and switches are beautiful. I hope I can someday get my handling together. I struggle with where I should be exactly on a course and what I should be doing. Knowing it and actually doing it are entirely...
  18. New "agility classes" thread

    Dog Sports/Show Forum
I remember reading this whole thread before I started agility. It’s massive but an absolute gold mine for agility theory and problem solving. I do wonder what’s happened to some of the posters who have come and gone in this thread and if they continued on with agility. I’ve only posted a...
  19. Almost 5 months!

    Dog Pictures Forum
She’s absolutely precious! I love that one blue eye. How big do you think she’ll get? Also, if you don’t mind me asking, what are foundations for flyball like? It’s on my list of sports to try some day.
