Almost two years my dad found out he had lung cancer. It was found early and he had surgery and the cancer was removed. He had chemo and radiation after and was really ill for awhile. A few weeks ago, his doctors discovered that his cancer is back but in his other lung. At the time they didn't think it was operable because to do the surgery they have to puncture the lung in order to remove the cancer from it. So the other lung has to be in good shape (the one not being operated on). Having had the cancer in it the first time in which part of the lung was removed, it didn't look like that lung would be able to withstand the surgery. So basically there was nothing to be done. I, of course, was devastated thinking that I was going to lose my father. My father called me this past Friday and said that he had breathing tests administered and his already operated lung is in great shape for having part of it removed. His doctor's now think that he will be able to withstand the surgery. I was VERY happy about this. Now he has had his surgery and is recovering in the hospital, but is doing very well. He will most likely have to have chemo again, but he can't have more radiation. It feels like this HUGE GIANT weight has been lifted from my shoulders knowing that he is ok.

MDawn.......I am so glad your Dad is on his way to getting better. You positive attitude is going to help him heal even more. My dad is going through esophageal cancer right now and he was a bullhead that was simply refusing treatment after the diagnosis. After much foot stomping and crying from me and my sister. He went through surgery to remove the lower part of his esophagus and is going through the chemo and radiation now. Remember.. daddies are the strongest men in the world. They can overcome anything life throws at them. And they do it for us.
I am so happy to hear that your father is doing well. I have also had Cancer. It is a horrible disease. I am hoping to never have it again. I am so happy to hear of people beating the odds. I know that there is so much more that they can do for people now days.
luv4gsds I am sorry to hear about your brother. You are right it does seem like more and more people are suffering from this disease. I currently have a nephew with a brain tumor. He is fighting it with everything he has. prognosis for brain tumors is not good. I am very sorry for your loss. He was way to young to die as well.
