Hello. A few months ago my daughter got herself a shelter puppy. The puppy, her name is Marcela, was abused by whoever had it before. Very much afraid of men but got along fairly good with my daughter. After a while she started to bite my daughter so she looked for help with different trainers. Now she is been trained by someone that I don't agree with. His method is to ignore the puppy when she comes to say hello at the door or in the mornings when they wake up. I find that kind of upsetting to the point that I have stopped going to visit the house because it is causing some tension between me and my daughter. When I arrive Marcela comes to greet me and I'm supposed to ignore her completely until she calms down and forgets about me. Then I'm supposed to pet her but not too affectionately. She whines and walks around trying to figure out what's wrong with her. Have anyone heard of this method of training. I find it borderline cruel. Sea Dog

I have heard of this method and the idea is to get the dog to calm down when someone comes into the house. Which is not a bad idea, but ignoring the dog is probley not the best way to go. what i do when someone comes in my house is i give the newcomers a treat and tell them to tell the dogs to sit, then the newcomers give the dog a treat. the result is, the dogs are friendly to strangers when they come to the door and they always sit when someone knocks on the door. I would never tell them not to pet the dog either. it's kind of weird.... What kind of dog is it if i may ask?
