    Pet Insurance?

I've heard of pet insurance but I don't know anyone who has it. Does anyone have it? Is it a good idea to have?

I don't have pet insurance but I think I'll get it soon if I keep bringing home animals!!! I hear its a good thing to have because vet bills can be outrageous. Its a good idea for you because Doxie's sometimes have back problems especially if they're even a little over weight. So feed yours exactly what is recommended because you don't want your new babies to have problems. Do a google search for pet insurance and see what you can come up with.
Say no to the banning of specific breeds. The dogs are NOT the problem, its the owners.

Histories are more full of examples of the fidelity of dogs than of friends. Your dog gives forever unconditional love, return it to him or her.

I have VPI and it is worth every penny, just for the peace of mind it gives me. I am covered up to $8,000 with a $50 deductable for $135 a year. This way I don't have to worry about affording a high vet bill in case of an accident or illness.......It is pretty easy to run up a multi thousand dollar bill at the vets.

I don't have one right now but thinking of getting one soon. Pet Insurance sounds good.

Does anybody use Pet Assure-it is an alternative insurance. Sounds pretty good on the internet but I want to hear from people who have personal experience with them.
My favorite chair, one of sisters made it years ago and she wouldn't have any idea I would use it like this
Heat vent is right below it and I can see outside through window perfectly. LIFE IS GOOD!!!!!

hmm, i was thinking about this earlier actually. I dont have it, but i dont know wether i should get it or not.

He's registered with the pdsa, which is for families with little income, so i dont suppose i'd need insurance. if something went wrong then i dont think i'd pay as much as others anyway.
I dont know, i guess i'll have to ask them if i should still get it?

I had the experience of spending a couple of afternoons at a VET ER a few months ago. I saw people coming to the reception area to pay their bill, or hearing the dog's owner being told how much the treatment would cost. Over a thousand dollars was more the rule than the exception, and this is with no long term care involved.

my pup has a Pet Insurance that cost like 300 dollars if i would convert it from a Japanese Yen. Everything's really pricey here but its better to have an Insurance bcuz the Vet bill is really outrageous.

    Thumbs up Pet Insurance

We had it for awhile through Banfield Pet Hospitals (part of PetsMart) in the late 1990's for our Shelties. It did pay off a few times, as one of our Shelties was getting old and started to have some health problems. If you can afford it, it's a good idea. Shop around and compare, though. It tends to be more useful as your pet ages and needs more (and more complex and expensive) care.

Believe it or not, I was told at an interview for a job (that I didn't get) with BAe Systems that they offer it as an employee benefit! Now that's what I call a company that cares about its employees!

I have an insurance policy with the AKC, and I've found it very well worth the money. It really depends on how you look at things - it is the opinion of some people that it isn't worth it because they just look at it as paying a monthly premium for nothing, but I really feel good about having it. I've had incidences in the past that the insurance has covered generously, as well as complete coverage on preventative care.
    Got Toller?

They have 2 plans - VPI Senior and VPI + Routine Care
You seem to have VPI senior. Is it not worth pay so much for insurance company for routine care? Is that why you choose just Senior plan? Please advise.

I didn't get the plan with the routine care, because I wanted more of a catastrophic policy, to help cover the expence of a major injury or illness.

    Re: Pet Insurance?

Vetinsurance is a good company. Once you enroll your pet the premiums stay the same no matter how long the pet lives. Check their website to compare. www.vetinsurance.com

    Re: Pet Insurance?

I just today posted the same thread without seeing this. I am wondering if a dog has a preexisting problem that will require surgery will some of the insurence companys take them on?

    Re: Pet Insurance?

    HI~
I very much believe in pet insurance, for several reasons. The first is, as Captbob said, is for peace of mind. The second is that we learned, from experience, how much treatment can cost. No one should have to choose between proper care of a pet who has a medical emergency and paying the mortgage that month. We went with VPI, and got the best coverage, which includes cancer care, and it costs us $28.00 per month. I reasoned that I wasted more than that on junk purchases per month. The coverage has been good, no complaints, and as long as we have Oliver, we will have this policy.
    hope this helps!

    Re: Pet Insurance?

We took out pet insurance when we got Buddy our 5 1/2 cocker/lab cross. It costs us approx. $30 a month but after our precious cocker spaniel Shadow got sick last June with a brain decease and prior to that we had to have a new ligiment put in his knee (we actualled call him our $10,000 dog). The last 3 days of his life cost us over $5,000 as umteen vets couldn't determine what was wrong with him so he had to undergo a lot of tests, some very expensive. Unfortunately after all of that we still couldn't save him - we miss him a lot. Hopefully Buddy will not need any of this insurance but at least we have peace of mind just in case.

    Re: Pet Insurance?

I think it's a good idea. My bro's dog had trouble breathing so he took him to a vet with no insurance. X rays cost him around $500 and then another 1000 for surgery. The dog ate some weeds and could not crap it out so they had to have surgery.
