    Distance Anxiety

My dog is getting close to 2 years old and is generally fine when we leave the house. Recently we started teaching her nose work and it was at a person's house. We crated her and walked away and she would not stop barking. Every other dog there was quiet, but she was not.

She does this in other situations, too. If my girlfriend and I are on a walk and I move away any distance, she stares and starts to get antsy, barking and nervous.

Any suggestions on how to remedy this? It doesn't seem to be full blown separation anxiety as we can leave the house without too many problems - she just gets mopey - but when we are in public, if she's not right by our side, she gets antsy and barky. Thoughts?

    Re: Distance Anxiety

not sure what the first 2 years have been like experience wise ? I know with my guys growing from puppy into maturity, I don't bring them to a new place and leave them. When I travel and go to my parents house we stay home at their house for the first 3 or 4 days to let them settle or bring the dogs with us if we do go out using my vehicle that they are use to. Any first couple times exposure I am there with them and don't leave them. When they older and mature and experienced with going to new places it's not a big thing for them to be crated at a dog show and I have to go out of sight. They grew up gaining experience , confidence on how things work

Thanks for the comment. We have never taken her anyplace and left her, and had she been off-leash she would have been running around sniffing and wanting to play with whomever is there. I frequently take her to friend's houses or hiking off leash and she runs around (though always comes back and rarely goes much farther than 50 feet).

But for some reason being constrained she hated us walking away.

I didn't understand - She barks as you walk away. [Velcro-dog?] But, does she continue to bark once you are out of sight?
