Hi everyone. I have a 6 3/4 old Australian Terrier. Recently, about a couple of weeks ago, we switched from Iams Proactive puppy food to Blue Buffalo Puppy food. We didn't get Blue Buffalo "Wilderness" because my dog is still a puppy.... We didn't SUDDENLY switch to it though. We did mix it and gradually increase. (The food said to switch gradually over the next 14 days, but we did it in like a week.) And my dog's poo is starting to be KIND of mushy and watery... Not a whole lot, but it isn't solid and firm like before. Is it because I switched the food too fast? Or is something else wrong with the food? Please help. Thank you!
"Kind of related: Is Blue Buffalo "Puppy" A good food? I couldn't get Blue Buffalo "Wilderness" So I tried tried their puppy food."
maybe your dog might have a more sensitive tummy, try making the old food the larger portion of the mix- use that for a day, then more gradually switch it... take another week to switch the food. Obviously if the poo gets worse over the next 12 - 24 hours, see a vet.
I just switched my huskey's food to blue buffalo fish and potato....it is amazing the difference in my dog. That said I had to wait almost 3 weeks to get something remotely resembling a "normal" poop. Her water intake also almost doubled too.Just be patient and keep half an eye out for a worm in the poop.
BB puppy has 554 calories per cup! The Iams only has 432 calories per cup. That means you only need to feed 75% BB as you did the Iams. Too much food can easily cause this problem. Try cutting the food back by 25% for a couple days to see if that helps.
