Maybe something like a paw print with angel wings for each of them, and have their name printed on the bottom of the paw? Condolences for your loss!

One thing you could do, too, is to get a book from the library (or do a Google image search) on dog art, especially if there is a particular style you like (for example, celtic or tribal or realistic or cartoony) and just browse through it. Not that you necessarily are trying to find exactly what you want, but you might see something that sparks your imagination and gives you an idea of where to start or what to build on.

    Re: Pet Memorial Tattoo.?

About 6 years ago I lost a cat that was better therapy for me than any therapist that my mom could find to treat my depression and when he passed it was the worst thing for me. I always said I'd get a tat in memory for him and had a sketch commissioned of him with angel wings to put it on my shoulder. I can't imagine it being to hard to do that twice and still keep it under the softball size. Quiz your local tattoo parlors and find someone who is really good at portraying pictures as tattoos that way you have more than just a paw print its more like a memory on your skin.

I hope I won't get to experience that any time soon! I thought of something, not paw prints though, but it must something that'll definitely make you remember them when you see that tattoo. That, you yourself can only answer though.

So, SO very sorry for your loss. Just had my lab put to sleep this morning and yesterday I put mud on my dog's paw, pressed it against some paper a few times, and plan on getting her paw print tattooed on me with it looking the way it was printed. Of course it is always up to you on what you want, and what is most personal to you, but I thought I'd share my idea for the heck of it. Hope you find what you want!

Hi Vanessa - Sorry for your lost. I can definitely relate to your pain. We lost our 1st girl dog in Dec 2008. And, the thing that's so weird about her passing is that she was absolutely fine the day before. Aside from arthritis, she had no ailments. The next morning, as I was getting ready for work, I noticed that she was moving extremely slow. But, it didn't really phase me because I thought she was just tired & that her hind leg (which had the arthritis) was bothering her. As, I got ready to leave for work, I went to give her her treat, which she would generally crumble & chew before she laid down with it; instead, she laid it down on the floor & when & laid down in the center of the family room. That's was totally out of the norm for her. So, I left -- still not thinking anything of her behavior. Later that day, my husband called me to say that he was on his way home from work; so, I asked him to check on her when he got home & see if her bone was still sitting in the family room floor. Now, normally, when my husband pulls up, she barks & makes all sorts of noise because she knows he's home. He told me, that she never barked. Not even when he walked in the house, so he knew right then that something was terribly wrong only to walk to the basement door & find her body at the bottom of the steps w/my other dog sitting there next to her. My boy dog stayed by her side, not wanting to leave her because he knew she was gone. It was horrible & I don't mean to be graphic or too detailed to have you relive that pain but just to let you know that we understand exactly what you're feeling & its going to take time to heal. Even to this day, we still think about her. As a memorial to her, we had her cremated by our local vet & had her ashes placed in a beautiful cherry wood urn w/her name engraved on it. The urn now sits in our basement which was her favorite place in the house. So, I applaud you for wanting to keep their memory alive & if getting a tattoo helps you to do that, then go for it. There's a website that has a gallery of tattoo art that may help inspire ideas of what you may want to get...check it out here. Good luck w/everything!

My condolences. It's hard and I hope that if you get this memorial it will help you heal.

What is "not to big" mean to you? There's some things that are not possible with a tiny space so it would be helpful if we had an idea of what is your maximum space for this.

    A few random suggestions-

A shadow outline of the dog/dog breed. It doesn't work with all dogs, but I've seen this tastefully done up. I've also seen simple line drawings of dogs sitting with their back turned since they have left. If you want a portrait, the smallest possible of a face profile would be about baseball sized for each. You can have also simple full body scenes done in less detail and would be cool to do of maybe a picture of both of them together playing or something. I've also seen a few people do dog poems with the dates/names of each dog. Is there something special to both of them? My friend has a boomerang on his shoulder with his dogs name since that played everyday with it.

Sorry about your loss. The paw print memorial tattoo is a great idea. I also like the touch about putting their names under the prints.

I am curious though, have you always been into tattoos? Or are you getting them just to carry with you the memories of your dear dogs? I lost a dog when I was still a child and I cried for months. Obviously, I couldn't get a tattoo if I knew about such by then. But your post made me think about getting one.

Let us see a photo of your tattoo when you get it done.

    Again condolences.

    I like paw prints too.
Maybe one with angel wings and one with a halo, whichever would fit each dog, i think it would keep each dog more individual than having a halo or wings on both. I also like the idea of putting the names under the individual paws.

Or, you could do your fave flower with ribbons around it with their names.

My moms pup died a year ago.. my mom wanted to get her a tattoo to remember missy.. I have two tattoos i designed myself so she asked me to for her.. What i thought would be neat is getting her name.. or in your case getting both names but intertwine little paw print around them like in a little design as if their walking around the name type thing.. or if you have their prints get the actual dog prints as a tattoo.. i know when Missy passed we got her Paw imprint to remember her by.. my mom just couldnt deal with the ashes.. so she decided to go with the actual size of the print.. =) Hope your pups paws aren't like mallets that will be a huge tattoo hehe =) Hope you feel better. Your pups are playing in puppy heaven together. cant wait to see a photo of it. Take care.

    Re: Pet Memorial Tattoo.?

I also lost 2 very special dogs just over a month apart this winter, and plan to have a memorial tattoo done. What I've done is ask a friend that's good at sketching to help me come up with plans, what I've settled with is a sketch that's a heart with my dogs facing each other with angel wings. Going to put their names at the bottom. Just depends on how much you want to spend on that tattoo, though, the fancier the design, the more you'll pay.
