    Goodbye Old Girl

Goodbye to the dog that picked me out when I was 7 years old - the only pup of the litter that ran up and licked my hand instead of chewing on it.

Goodbye to the dog that ran beside me as we fled from the neighborhood's terror, Razor (a white german shepherd), with me when you were just a tiny puppy. One of my most vivid childhood memories.

Goodbye to the dog who's collar popped off during a walk at 3 months old, and had me jumping into a giant puddle of mud to grab your back legs just before you dashed into the street.

Goodbye to the dog who was there for me when my best friend died in a car accident.

Goodbye to the dog who was always waiting for me at the door, no matter what time, when I finally came over from sleepovers.

Goodbye to the dog who watched me go to middle school, then to high school, and then off to college.

Goodbye to the dog who never turned down a game of tug or a walk around the block.

Goodbye to the dog who had the most gentle soul you could ever imagine.

Goodbye to the dog that was always stealing slippers, but never chewing them or ruining them.

Goodbye to the dog that always had a toy in her mouth, so instead of barking would howl/bay and scare people, until we explained that you just were happy to see them.

Goodbye to the dog who was a 100 pound lap dog, always trying to climb into people's lap.

But most of all - goodbye to the best companion my family could have asked for, goodbye to my best friend, goodbye to an amazing dog who had a heart of gold for sure.

You will be dearly missed, and we love you so very much.

Your fight is over now Dazey May. Run free.

Thank you. Her years were filled with baseball games, hiking, lounging in the yard, and laying on the chaise lounge in front of the air conditioner. She fought until the end and passed unexpectedly but peacefully at home. That's all I could ask for.
