Black worm leech things on lawn

Sometimes when I'm on our front lawn I'll feel something weird and slimy on my leg...usually I freak out and fling it off or rub it into the grass so I never really see what it is.
Today I saw it, it was on a tennis ball that had landed in the grass. And I found another one on Maple's fur when she rolled over, I plucked that little jerk right off and I'm about to give her a good brushing in case there are any more.
It's about half a cm wide. It's a black, or to be more accurate a very darkish red/brown/black. It resembles a leech or a worm with a bulge in the center (kinda like a slug) and had no antennae as far as I could tell. It didn't move much. It was slimy and gross.
I have no pictures, I was freaking out and ran back into the house asap when I saw them. LOL.

Any help identifying this? Or help with getting rid of them? Are they harmful? (And if you have any tips for getting rid of mushrooms on my lawn those would be helpful too!)

Hmm without a picture I'm not quite sure...at first my first instinct was to think of a slug but if you didn't see any antennae...the I'm not too sure. Do you have a damp or wet backyard? I know here in Seattle I have slugs everywhere because my yard never really dries out. LoL

Or maybe something like a pear slug? They eat leaves and such in trees but I guess they could have fallen into the grass...lol

They COULD be leeches. Do you live near any type of water? I know someone who lives near a march and finds leeches in their back yard on the grass sometimes as they are right next to the marsh.

I'll try to snap a picture if I see one again...after I get over the fact that I'm frightened of my lawn that is.
They COULD have antennae but I wasn't paying very close attention, and if they did then they would have to have been very small, seeing as the creature itself is so minuscule.
Yeah our yard is pretty moist sometimes, which I think also causes the mushrooms. We're trying not to water the grass as much but it's still pretty wet xD
If by near you mean next-door-neighbors to a body of water, then no. We live near the bay, and there's a pond half a mile away but I don't think those would count. xD
