    Signatures

Can we please tone down the size of signatures? If your signature is taller than 2 computer screen inches (5.08 cm for you metric folks), it's too big. Please save us on scroll down time. Thank you.

    Re: Signatures

Yours is fine. I don't know what I mean by 2 computer screen inches other than if you stick a ruler up to your computer screen, and if it's bigger than 2 inches, chances are it's too big. Those of you with 6 inch computer screens will have to factor in that us normal people have screens 17-21 inches large. So do the math.

You're at 2.5 computer inches on my screen Grey. Pretty close. If you change a few font sizes I'm sure you'd be fine with all that you have.

If someone has a big image in their signature I just block it using Adblock Plus and Firefox (instead of Internet Explorer). "I know you are proud of all 12 of your dogs, but I've already seen these pictures in your signature before and your signature is twice as big as most of your posts!" Anyway, you might want to give it a try. It's all free by the way.

But of course, you can tell people to shrink their signature where as I can't

    Curb...

I'm not sure what you mean by "two computer screen inches." My signature is within the posted guidelines of the board:
The maximum size of your custom image is 500 by 100 pixels or 64.0 KB
Are those rules changing? And if so can you let me know the new required file size and/or pixel dimensions? I run my monitors at 1280x1024 so everything tends to be smaller on my screen than people who run lower resolutions.

Other boards I'm on just unceremoniously delete signatures that exceed the posted forum standard. It's an option, anyway.

Hmm...lately I've noticed it's the single dog signatures that seem to be ginormous. So how 'bout laying off those of us with large packs. I have 14 dogs in my signature and it meets all requirements of this board. I think I even managed to make this post taller than my sig. ETA: and yes, I'm proud of each and every one of them. If you don't like my dogs, don't look. I have the same option of bypassing your avatar if I wanted to.

Easy there turbo . My quote about "being proud of your dogs" was a little tongue-in-cheek. I too like everyone else, of course, am proud of my dogs. I don't care if people put pictures in their signature. I like to see what dogs people own; I would most likely have a picture in my signature if I didn't have one in my avatar. But if someones picture is large to the point that it gets in the way of me browsing the forum, then I will block it. It's not meant as a slight to the poster: I would never tell someone that I blocked their picture because I can understand why someone would find that offensive. Your picture is small and fine by me, I just brought up the multiple dogs thing because I have seen sigs with a large, separate picture for each dog, which I think is over the top.

I was mainly just trying to provide a solution to the people (like yourself) that would rather not have to scroll past large images in peoples signatures. Maybe my first post needed more emoticons to convey intent. I have tried to rectify that with this post

    Re: Signatures

redox - I do find large signatures annoying...and I don't usually stick around on boards that don't regulate the size b/c it is a pain to scroll past a 300x700 sig pic! Apologies for getting my panties in a twist where no offense was intended But, this board has a specified size/file size, so I'm not sure why people upload the huge pics to begin with. I mean, the size limits are *right next* to where you upload the file!

...and I don't bypass anyone's sig or avatar...it's usually how I remember who is who!

No, the rules are not changing, and I'm not even sure why some people are *able* to upload large images. Regardless, I don't *want to* go around policing sigs. If I *have to* I will, but I won't be happy doing it. I'm just trying to say hey, if your signature looks like its taller than 2 inches on your computer screen, it's probably too big. Maybe I should just say if it's taller than mine, it's probably too big, edit it.

The signature feature was given to us as a nicety, let's try not to abuse it.

I understand completely what you are saying Curb, its sorta annoying when you have to scroll thorugh alot of useless writing,
honestly I like the pictures, it does help to distinguish one person from another. But all the writing, and 4 or 5 pictures.... come on, there should be a size limit, not like we already have, but like your 2 inch thing. ( even though im not sure what you mean lol)
I have a siggy pic, but serioulsly I just like changing up my quotes from time to time.

Am I the only here who keeps a ruler taped to the edge of my monitor??

I find that hard to believe.

(Is my signature too big? It looks like more than 2" on my 48" monitor.)
