Entertaining an 8 month old German Shepherd Puppy in winter....

Oh yes.. we have been having some weather this winter. Snow snow snow and ice in between. We have a two day reprieve but the snow and cold have returned and today there are HIGH WIND Warnings.. with winds in excess of 55 MPH (and I believe it looking out there).

What is one to do with a bored 8 month old puppy? She has pestered me out.. pestered Atka out and pestered the cats out.. and now is on the prowl for real trouble.

Being Saturday I had to do errands and figured out how to do them so that the puppy could come along (stuff like picking up cat meds, cat food, dog treats etc... the cricuit). I hop in the car at 8:00AM and we are off....

The Vet was fun (and we got a weight.. she is now 44.5 pounds). We had a good time at the pet food store getting cat food.. where jumping with front feet on the counter was good (to greet people) and Tractor Supply was good with clerks with treats and a brief hand signal demonstration...

.. HOWEVER.. NOTHING beat taking the Salt Mobile (car) to the AUTOMATIC CAR WASH. She was enthralled. It was a jaw dropping ride.. like a kid on a ride at the fair. She had to let me know the BIG BRUSHES were RIGHT THERE and then the ROPE THINGS attacked us.. and the RINSE was a huge success as was the Wind Tunnel at the end. What Fun!!!

We came out the other end and she looked at me as if to say, "WOW!!! THAT was GREAT!! Can we GO AGAIN???????

LOL! That is priceless. Did she try to attack the brushes or anything?

And in regards to Tractor Supply...are all of them pet friendly (do you know)? We have one nearby and I would love to take Gracie there.

I've never had the nerve to take a dog through the car wash. I'm always worried it's going to scare the ^&%$! out of them and make them never want to get into the car again.

(Not that it comes up that often, but every once in awhile when I'm out running errands with a dog along the opportunity has arisen.)

Oh that is so funny!! That must have been so exciting for her. I've taken Lola before and she just watches everything go around warily.

It sounds like you live in the same part of the country as me--we have the same exact weather here (Mass). It's not been a fun winter to be a dog, that's for sure. We've had a very difficult time making up for the lack of walks.

I wish I knew! Farm stores tend to be more animal friendly especially with farm dogs. I wish I knew if ours was though...I've seen a few dogs in the parking lot but the only one I've seen indoors is one - and it was a seeing eye dog

Cute. Strangely, the weather has warmed up here in Ann Arbor and all the snow has melted pretty much. We might get some more next week though.

Well, since I am not doing the driving in the car wash I can do things like say, "WOW! LOOK at THAT!!" and be encouraging. She did not try to attack things.. she was more like This is so COOL!!!! LOOK at THAT!!! She is not a fearful dog due to me taking her everywhere (she has ridden the tourist train right behind the locomotive so has had to learn about the train horn, bells and general noise, shake, rattle and roll. I take her everywhere... but she is bored to the point of distraction and the car wash had her full attention.

I don't know if dogs are "allowed" at TSC. I took her in to fit a collar and have taken her in ever since. She is a well behaved dog, does not mark etc. and is very friendly and still looks like a puppy so we have no issues. We look at all the stuff and the people and today we bought a two dog coupler for when I take both dogs on leash and some inexpensive dog treats. We check out everything.. heck.. a lot of the stuff there I used to use and know more about than the employees. And the employees give her treats (they have them behind the counter) so that says the place is dog friendly to friendly dogs.

I do recommend the car wash for bored kids and dogs... LOL

Car washes are GREAT for confident dogs....

BTW..... They are also great test runs for dogs that will be flying.

So the car wash can be used as a flight simulator! I knew Australian Cattle dogs were smart but I did not know you let them fly! So this gets me asking.. has Merlin Soloed yet?????

I am trying to get Atka to drive.. then I am going to start sending her to work. She does intensely watch me start the truck.

Seriously.. that is a good idea about the car wash as a simlator for flying with a dog. And all I was trying to do was to get my puppy unbored. LOL
