    Puppy that pees A LOT

I have had several puppies in my life and I swear none of them have ever peed this much. He is 15 weeks old and he pees every 10 to 15 mins, can this be normal?

I know all puppies are different, but I have never seen one pee this often. I might as well spend all day outside with him because no sooner than I get in it is time to take him back out. I work very diligently at house training, but it seems impossible when he pees so often.

I have never had a problem house training a puppy before. I know they can't be expected to be fully trained until the are 6 mths, but I don't seem to be making much progress and I have had him since he was 9 wks old.

I got some potty bells and we started working on that really hard today and he did ring it 3 times and a couple of times he went on the floor right by the back door which is progress, but then he just went where ever several times. He has no specific place he goes, just where ever the urge hits him. In the few mins I have been typing this he has peed twice.

Shortly after I got him he was peeing a lot and one day when I came in from errands he had peed blood, so I rushed him to the vet. We did a test and it pointed to a UTI so we put him on antibiotics for 2 wks and it cleared up and hasn't come back. He is not peeing as much now as he was then, but still a lot. It was very diluted then too, not so much now.

It has been years since I had a puppy so can someone tell me if this IS still puppy stuff or maybe I should have him recheck at the vet?

I would have him re-checked, if not for anything but your peace of mind. It's not uncommon IME to have infections crop back up AFTER the round of antibiotics are gone, so it might be worth having a sample re-looked at just to be sure.
If nothing else, is he a busy puppy who's constantly on the move and therefore drinking a lot of water?

I think I will have him rechecked, I decided that as I was typing that. I really am just frustrated, not with him because I know it is not his fault, but just that I can't seem to make any progress. He did drink a lot of water when I first got him, way too much. Once I switched him to a good dog food he stopped drinking so much. He was on Eukanuba and apparently that was making him drink a lot, plus I think they drink more when they have a UTI. Now he is on Fromm dry and can and he drinks normal amounts.

this puppy sounds like my Boone, when he was that age. I recall once being on the phone with someone I know from online (Jenny, I'm speaking of Jane from Maine) and Boone peed four times in 15min. I ended up going back to housetraining 101, I also had to pick up his water after 7pm

That makes me feel a little better that your puppy did the same and didn't have anything major going on. I have an appt at the vet with him this morning just to make sure there is not something else causing this. He is hungry all the time and when he eats you would think he hadn't eaten in a year, which I have read Bull Terriers will do...but I will feel better knowing for sure if there is or isn't something more serious here.

    Thanks for your replies!

Re: Puppy that pees A LOT

He has elevated BUN and creatinine, so not good news. We ruled out diabetes and kidney stones. He had the infection before and we cleared it up with antibiotics, but now that I look back there must have been more going on then. His urine has always been diluted and now a slight infection again. The vet said there is a 50/50 chance we are dealing with congenital kidney disease, but we would have to do an ultrasound and I think a filtration test? to know for sure. He put him on antibiotics for 2 weeks again and then we will recheck the kidney numbers. I have always thought in the back of my mind something is not right with the amount of peeing he does. This sucks! I am so attached to him already. I have had a dog with renal failure, he was 10 and in the end he had cancer too. It ripped my heart out.

The breeder says he will replace him, but that option really stinks at his point. Loosing him at the age of 2-3 sucks too though. Sorry I am rambling, I don't know what to think, say or do. This is all so confusing to understand and then when emotions get in the way it is even harder to concentrate and try to understand it. I think more antibiotics is a band-aid, I don't look for this to have a happy ending.

Anyone with more knowledge on this have any info, advice, words of wisdom?
