Variation of size within a litter

My wife and I's Aussie is turning 7 months next week, my parents got another puppy out of the same litter. They are both females, right now my pup is closer to 45 pounds(no she isn't overweight), and my parents pup is still maybe 35ish pounds. I am guessing that my dog will top out around 50, with my parents dog topping out around 40. On top of the weight difference there is also a pretty significant difference in heights.

The stud of the litter was a little over 50 pounds, with the bitch being right at 40.

Is it pretty common for there to be such a discrepancy in size within the litter? Just curious, one of those things you see happening when you see both dogs grow from little 8 week old balls of fuzz into adults.

I assume so. I believe that the difference amount and how often ot happens varies by breed. Certain breeds tend to have more variance. Pups inherit different genes from their parents. What are the sizes of the grand parents and great grand parents. I see if often enough in APBT.

While Not Aussies, but Boston Terriers, Chad my Male weighs about 28 Pounds (He's not Standered and never will be, do NOT look for a LARGE Size Boston they are wrong) While his Brother Jerry weighs and even 15 Pounds and is a show dog. There Mother Leia was 18 pounds, and their Father Sirius was 21 Pounds. So, why Chad is the way he is who knows he's a HUGE throw back LOL!

When you breed a big dog to a smaller dog, generally, the heights don't average out. You get some bigger dogs, some smaller dogs, and maybe some in the middle. There's an image somewhere showing how some Chihuahuas end up bigger than average, but I can't find it. I know it was posted here before, maybe by Laurelin or one of the other Papillon owners?

My pup had 1 littermate, a girl. At 17 weeks, she weighed 7 pounds, and my pup weighed 12 pounds. They are mini AEDs, although the female will probably barely make mini size, and my boy is going to be a larger mini. The parents are about 12-1/2 inches tall and my pup is already close to 12 inches so he's going to be bigger than both of them. Mini AEDs are supposed to reach adult height by 6 months.

As a breeder (although I don't breed much) I always find it interesting to see range in my pups. For example in my last little the largest pup born was 7.8 oz's and she is now the smallest of the litter :) while tiny pup a male born at 3 oz's, (yep that is very small even for a jrt) is now an inch taller than his older but smaller littermate. I had a range in size from 12 inches to 14 inches, but then I expected that, knowing the pedigree and the sire/dam. And the cross was almost a complete outcross, with only one linebred in the first 10 generations.
