I want to know if anyone has any information on the Parson Russel terrier. If you have had any experience with this breed please share with me:)

I don't have one but I can say that the Parson is essentially just the show version of the Jack Russell terrier. There was some controversy, the working breeders of JRTs didn't want to be AKC/CKC accepted, so the show group changed the name of their dogs to be accepted to Parsons.

I am a breeder of Jrts and I also compete a lot with my dogs in many different things, I also hunt with them. Parson is the kennel club version of the same breed as the JRTCA dogs, same pedigree's etc. The Parson came from the JRTCA reg'd dogs, both have long legs and must be a square balanced dog.

At this time I am living with 6 of them, they are all in the house and sleep in our beds. I have had as many as 17 at once but prefer to keep my numbers down and a more livable level lol.

What would you like to know?

They are great, bouncy, little(well mine is huge) dogs. They come in smooth/wired coat. Bred to hunt fox and go in tunnels. They like to dig. They are very fast runners and usually high energy, and like most terriers, they are stubborn.

All of this, I've gathered from my dog though, who is a mixed breed but there's some jrt in there, so I don't know much!

I have one too :) JRTs are spunky lovable little dogs! mine is a rough coat (I prefer these as I love the scruffy look and they shed less)

Here is a link for the different coat types, not great pic's but they'll do. We also have other classifications within the coat types, although it doesn't change where you would enter a dog in the conformation ring. Broken can be a lightly broken to heavy which borders on being a Rough. Rough also can be light or heavy.
Even the smooths should have a harsh, dense coat, slick and very soft is a fault in all three coat types.
Getting them wet down to the skin should be difficult, the water should run off the top of the coat. They should have an under coat, if you roll the coat backwards, you shouldn't be able to see their skin.
As a side note, dogs entered in Broken/Rough conformation classes, you can't tell which coat type they have because of the show grooming to clean them up.

Wired Haired dogs, like the Fox Terrier have a spiral look and feel to their coats which looks and feels nothing like a Jrt/Prt's Broken/Rough coat.

I hope that clears it up :)

Well I have what I believe is a Parson/JRT mix. He is pretty low energy compared to the typical JRT, but then he's also about five and a mix. I will tell you this though, he can JUMP. He is like a little tank with springs in his legs and all the other JRT/Parsons I have met have been pretty much the same. They are tenacious little terriers and need lots of exercise/stimulation. But fun dogs.

Your welcome :) The under coat should be present for all three coat types.
This a pic of my pup when she was 4 months old, she is a smooth coat (actually all my dogs are smooths) and her coat isn't ideal although not horrible either lol. She does have an undercoat, the top coat is too slick and soft. When (if) I breed her in a few years, I'll have to find a broken/rough boy for her.

The one thing you'll find with the breed, especially the smooth coat as that is what I currently own, is that they can't handle winter or very cold mornings/evenings too well. I found out the first year I owned her that she needed a coat if we where going for a walk/barn/to the park. I got really dirty looks/comments from some people who thought I was "dressing up" my dog. But watching her shiver and having only enough hair to cover her body (a default maybe?) all winter the first year I purchased her, I made her a winter coat from one of mine that I no longer wore.
This is the ONLY thing that I don't like about the breed, other then that I absolutely love them.

I see that you are from Canada, same here. A great place to purchase very cheap but excellent dog coats is Greenhawks the horse supply company. The coats look like horse blankets and at full price they are only $29.99. On sale I have purchased them as cheap as $15.99 in the spring. The first 3 coats/blankets that I purchased over 10 years ago still don't have even a thread coming loose on them and they have been washed countless times. Most Jrts/Prts can wear the small or extra small depending on the size of the dog. The coat/blankets are wind, rain resistant and they are made out of the same material as winter turn out blankets for horses.
They are far more affordable and durable than anything I have ever seen in any pet store.
