Em, the Labs I've liked most are the ones with incorrect temperaments for their breed. They're extremely aloof and allow you to touch them but they do not get a massive case of "wiggle butt dopey face".

In other words, the Labs I like act like GSDs.

Yeah, that would be Belle. Penny is a more of a real Lab. I prefer Penny's temperment, definitly....sometimes Belle is hard to deal with. she's better now that we have Penny I guess.

Maybe so. She makes up for Belle's serious-ness.

Tell me again what it is that you like about Rotties? lol They all tend to have a bad case of "wiggle butt dopey face" lol Some much worse then others.

Re: Worst Dog breed match up?

Pretty much any dog that isn't in the terrier, hearding, or working breed categories.

I'm with Xeph, can't stand labs, they are just TOO happy, lovey dovey, in your face for me. The lab and golden I dog sit for my neighbors drive me nuts! Nice dogs but too much for me. My parents have a golden and she's nice but she wants to be with you/up your butt 24/7, it's like she can't function unless she is right beside you. (No SA, or anything like that she just LOVES to LOVE her people, it's horrible to say but she drives me nuts!).

I could never own a hound (beagle, basset, coon hound...). I'm not a fan of little 'fru-fru' dogs, though I have met a few that I have liked. My neighbors & their daugher have two shi-zhues (Buck & Duke, lol) and they are good little dogs I know another friend that has one as well and she's a doll.

So yeah if it isn't a JRT, Rat Terrier, Aussie, Doberman, Boxer, Dane, ACD, or Sheltie I don't want it Of course there are exceptions to every rule, but those are the dogs in general that I am and am not drawn to.

Yeah, but as they get older they seem to get more discerning, like the GSDs. At least that's the way the ones I've met have behaved.

Carsten and Oliver don't count...they know me xD

BTW, I will certainly never let you forget Carsten sprawling in the middle of the ring for the long down at the Pet Expo last year! LOL!!

Anything small. My whole family has small dogs and feel like im going to break them. There are cute and fun to play with, but I would never pick one for myself.

Anything that can't breathe quietly... I am not a fan of heavy breathing.

Small dogs, especially ones with long long hair. Also dogs that have low stamina, I like a dog that can go, go, and go some more. I don't like dogs that love everyone they see and wouldn't even notice if they went home with a stranger. I like reserved dogs and I don't like one that's always in your face or right on your heels. I don't like extremely independent dogs that you have to bribe forever to get them to listen to you. I just like my beagles!
And I also can't stand the ear piercing yappy dogs, I prefer a deep bay!

I will always stay away from high shedding dogs like the pug or the GSD. I cannot stand Shedding and if there is lots of hair on me I feel completly dirty. I was at my So's aunts place and they have this wonderful GSD Lucky and I was sitting on a chair and as soon as I got up I was covered. It drove insane and as soon as I could I changed all my clothes. I dont like finding clumps of hair under furnature. I never get any of that having three non shedding dogs. Its wonderful!

I've actually thought about this sort of thing before. I think the breed that is just about the opposite of what I want in every way is the Chinese Shar Pei. Based on what I've heard about the breed, they're big, have a short coat, I don't care for the wrinkles, they're aloof, serious and independent. Obviously I like small/medium sized dogs with tons of coat, smooth/delicate faces, outgoing personalities, are very happy-go-lucky, and I definitely like my dogs clingy and Velcro-y

We would so not get along. I have seriously looked at adopting a sharpei if it wasn't for the DA issues the breed is known to have if not properly trained and socialized. I don't know that I'd be up to the challenge of owning such an animal. I met one once who came up to me sniffed my hand, let me pet his head and then was off to explore the room. He couldn't have cared less about me. This is how Brutus is as well and is one of the things I like about him. You can pet him if you wish, but don't think he's going to enjoy it or warm up to you.

Zero you would like, but personality wise, he's nothing like a dog I would choose. He loves everyone. Everyone is his BFF and he never goes far from my side if he's off leash. I can have him off leash in my front yard while I wash my car and he just sits in the yard and watches me. In the house, he tends to follow me around. I find it a bit annoying as I'm constantly tripping over him.

Lol, wow, we ARE opposites! I miss Basil when he's not tripping me! It does sound like I would like Zero, though

Re: Worst Dog breed match up?

The following are not good matches for me I believe:
    • Dogs with pushed in faces (e.g. Pugs, French Bulldogs, Boxers)
    • Tiny dogs (afraid to step on them, I'm not the most delicate person and I do have two children)
    • Dogs who are too aloof to care whether you are home or not (might as well get a cat)
    • Dogs who don't like to be touched by nature
    • Dominant dogs who are hard to train when you're not very assertive (German Shepherds, Rottweilers, and Dobermans come to mind)
    • Dogs who are too independent and perform specific jobs for the average person (Akbash, Komondor and the Karelian Bear Dog come to mind)
    • Dogs who are too smart and need a job desperately to function primarily as a pet (Border Collies come to mind )
    • Dog breeds who were previously used for fighting purposes (Pitt Bulls come to mind)
    • Dog breeds who need to be born by C-section in order to be alive or healthy (Bulldogs come to mind)
