    Most Popular Mixed Breed Dog

Hello! It's easy to find a list of the most popular pure bred dogs but I'd like to find a list of the most popular mixed breed dogs. Does anyone know where I might find such a list?

Re: Most Popular Mixed Breed Dog

I think the lagest number of mixed breed dogs out there are unknown mixes. Most of mine have been ambiguous.

If I had to generalize, I'd say that lab mixes are the most common. There's some kind of rule that every mixed breed HAS to have at least some lab genes.

Based off of shelter observations, the three most common mixes I've seen are Pit Bull mixes, Shepherd mixes, and Lab mixes, in that order.

I'd think the most popular (or numerous) mixed breed dogs come from the most popular pure bred dogs...like labs. Almost every mix I've met (including Bella) is a lab mix. And like Nargle said there are a lot of pit and shepard mixes, too.

I would say it's the Kim.
    Or the Webster.

    They are really quite popular.

Pit mixes seem to be overflowing in shelters. Although I do have a pdf with like 12 pitty looking dogs that had DNA tests done, and only two of them had significant levels of pit. After that I see a lot of lab/hound mixes. I think a lot of it has to do with location and what dogs are common in the area. There used to be plenty of German shepherd/chow chow mixes, but I feel like those have tapered off.

I also think it has to do with the staff's tendency towards guessing certain breeds. Any medium/large blond dog with a smooth coat is a lab, when it could very well be so many other things. Anything with a short face, eyepatch, muscular body or cropped ears is a pit bull, and everything else is a shepherd, lol!

    This is so true lol.

Anything black and tan is a rottie (if it's stocky) or a dobe (if it's not) mix.

Medium/large black dogs are also almost always lab mixes if their ears don't stand up.

Anything with a blue eye is a husky mix...

    etc.

Well any kind of small dog is like mixed with poodles now to create small non-shedding dogs.

Anything with ticking is a cattle dog mix and medium sized brown, white, or black (or a combo of the 3) is a beagle mix. If it has long hair it's a golden mix or a spaniel mix

Most of the mixes I see in the shelters around me, are Shepherd Mixes

If you were wanting to know what mixes seem to be "for sale" in my area.
It would probably be a Shih Tzu Mix and Anything crossed with a poodle.

I agree on the lab thing, and would like to add Germans Shepherds as well.

I think Lab mixes, Pit mixs, GSD mixes. Possibly poodle mixes.

I think the #1 small dog in shelters is the "terrier mix."

LOL yeah the infamous "terrier mix".

I also think, well there are a lot of terriers, so which one are we talking about here.
