    House smells like dog- HELP

I have 2 pups...Since getting the second dog I have noticed my house has a "dog: smell. I spray febreeze and clean constantly, but the smell is in the air. Any suggestions? I have hardwood floors with one area rug and I always use carpet cleaner and the dog urine stain stuff in case the young one has accidents, but this isnt a urine smell, its "Dog". Not wet dog, more like a kennel smell. Please help!

How long have you had the second dog?

I have a few too many dogs (5) and have found that regular brushing is the only way to keep the smell out of the house. Combine this with deodorant doggie spray. I hope that you get the smell sorted I know how bad it can be as I hate smells of any kind.

We also have 5 dogs in and out of the house so we wash dog bedding once a week aswell as human bedding, we don't have carpet so that helps alot and I don't allow them on the furniture and they get baths every 2 weeks unless they get dirty then it's more often I also use air freshners through out the house and light candles alot cause I love candles

I've visited homes where the dog is inside. To me, I can always tell. My dogs are in my kitchen when they're inside and the kitchen does smell like dog.

I mist my house (and the dogs if they don't move) with white vinegar and water 50/50 with a capful of that mr clean allpurpose with febreeze in it to help kill the vinegar smell 2 times a week. Vacuum every other day with carpet fresh, wash bed covers every 2 weeks (unless some one messes on them) and bath the dogs once a month (or as needed) and with 6 dogs here we hardly ever have doggie smells even with the pup... now farty smells that's different

I agree with spicy.. I LOVE that smell.. Not stinky really but kinda musty and "lived in" I love to walk into somebodys house and tell immediately that they have animals.

I guess I would feel differently if the house "stunk".. to me when I think of kennel smell I think of the kennels at the shelter.. that is NOT a good smell

I grew up with cats all my life so once you've lived with a litterbox..or two.. or three .. dog smell really doesn't phase you

One joy shatters a hundred griefs

Last time my mom visited, she suggested a very good idea to me. She said sprinkle a mixture of baking soda and lemon zest on the carpet, then vaccume it out. It'll make it smell fresh and clean =3

Also, my mom makes her own cleaning products with hydrogen peroxide and essential oils, and it always makes the house smell really good. Her favorite is Eukaliptus.

Well, I'm lucky because 3 of my 4 dogs are Standard Poodles, and they never smell "doggy." Luc, the Shih Tzu, doesn't stink anymore, but when he first came he really smelled bad, and so did everything he slept on. Ugh. I ordered a case of OdoBan (4 1-gal. bottles) from Amazon.com (GREAT price!), and I just LOVE the stuff!

The smell is sooooooooo clean and fresh, plus it's a powerful disinfectant for bacteria and many viral diseases. I use it in the potty area outside as well. My daughter begged me for a bottle, and she puts some in the tub with hot water before guests come over because "the whole house smells wonderful!" lol It does smell good, and you won't have any doggy smell in your home if you clean with it.

Oh, I'd also like to mention, that you can reduce your dog's odor by feeding a high quality diet and bathing frequently. When we adopted Basil, he was on Iams, and he smelled weird. Like old musty stale corn chips. We switched his diet to EVO, and started giving him baths every week to every month. Now he doesn't have much of a smell at all to him.

I'm a big stickler on smells!

My father and step-mother have three of their own dogs, inside/outside all the time! They free-roam anywhere, and ironically the only thing I can pick up on is cigarette smell if one of them smokes in the kitchen. (My parents not the dogs!)

Donatello stays in my room a lot, with the door closed, and even when I keep the window shut it still doesn't smell... Donatello just doesn't have an odor, the other dogs do but the odor doesn't stay... My theory is, is that the dogs stay mostly upstairs where it's mostly hardwood floor, or they go outside... They aren't allowed in the carpeted dining-room, and they rarely come downstairs... I think the carpets, how clean the dog is, and how much the dog is on the carpet contributes to that doggy smell.

Donatello is always on my bed, more so then the floor, and I wash my bedding once a week...
