Pain relief for shot site... Ideas?

Taking Riley in for his third set of shots today. His last set left him really sore for two days at the shot site. anything I should be asking for this time around from the vet??? Your experiences??? I leave in a couple hours.

You can try and put an ice pak on it when you get home. Otherwise, I don't think there's much else.

An ice pack will help, ask the vet if it's safe to give the pup a baby aspirin and/or a benadryl.

I only allow my vet to administer ONE shot per visit. For two reasons in case one of my dogs have a allergic reaction, and for the reason you mentioned. Once my dog did have allergic reaction and they did not know which shot it was so had to give her a bunch of more shots and she almost died.

    Thanx for the replies.....
It's just that last time besides the painful injection site, he also was very lethargic and didn't eat for a day. The vet did give him something of a different brand, hopefully that will help. But he had to get his rabies today too.... Owie!!

I would wait for the rabies for sure. There's no since in causing more pain for the poor pup.

If he was lethargic after any injection(s) please advise your vet so it is written in his chart. Next time he can get a med beforehand so he won't have any problems afterwards. If he continues to feel pain or has the blahs please notify your vet.

Positive thoughts he will be feeling like his ole self soon.

For future reference, next time, wait at least 4 weeks between vaccinations and the rabies vac. You might want to talk with your vet about getting single vaccines instead of the 5 in one, or 7 in one.
