Well today I was looking at a website that raises animals only for slaughter and raw feeding and my teacher saw and she was grossed out and asked "You feed your dogs that?!" I explained that I am just looking into getting some raw bones as treats... and that I do not feed raw religiously, but that I do raw treats from time to time.
This is what she said...

"So then you are like turning your dogs into PSYCHO, Rabid Killing Pit Bulls?! All blood thirsty and what not? Right?" This was said in front of the class... before it began... and I immediately thought (here we go)... So I calmly answered "No, and Pit Bulls are not Psycho ma'mm, nor are they blood thirsty... they are just dogs. You make them how you want them."

She continued on... (3 others chimed in as well, that I'd better watch out or my future children will get killed) that I was wrong and that ALL Pit Bulls are psycho and are killers (IT'S IN THEIR DNA! one said)... and then she said "Oh your upset, so I assume you own those killing dogs? Your dogs are Pits?" I of course said no... and told her what I have and she questioned why I stood up for them then... I replied, because I know better ;).

An ongoing battle that will never be won... Uggh... Ignorance is Bliss!!!

LoL... well I'm in my Junior year of College... so I think that it's better taken care of personally or left alone rather than going to the whole set of Board members ;)... but I know what ya mean. Just putting out how many ignorant ppl there are out there lol, I'd rather let them keep on thinking what they want instead of wasting my breath to something that will never be listened to.
Thanks tho! :)

Sometimes people argue just to keep arguing their side once they get started, but they might think about it later and some little thing might sink in...you never know.

What a strange reaction. Does it really seem so strange to people to give a dog a bone?
Well... I think to alot of ppl (especially ones that I have spoken with) they have NEVER heard a thing about raw feeding and think its barbaric and some kind of killer training for a dog. After I explain more about it... they come around, but this woman was so set on the fact that it just makes any dog like a Pit because "Pits are apparently blood thirsty killers" Ugggh... soo freakin stupid. But what can ya do other than try to educate them without blowing up...

Well, thanks for sticking up for our dogs and its a shame that such ignorance is able to touch the lives of those that don't even own the breed.

I too have have had similar conversations on raw feeding (which didn't include pit bull statements). Some folks just don't get it...I usually start off with this line: how long have humans kept dogs and how long have corporations made kibble? What did they eat before kibble was a commercial product? Did everyone "cook" for their dogs?

It's a sad day dealing with folks whose passion is matched only by their ignorance. If you truly care to educate this person, print out some info from RAW websites...good luck, and thanks again for sticking up for pit bulls - we need all the help we can get these days.

I think that is really what struck me hard... I too have had many conversations like this about raw feeding... but this is the first time that anyone said anything about Pitties with the subject. She is obviously GREATLY influenced by the media (who isnt nowadays?) she kept on saying how she read this... or saw that on the news.

Then she went on to say, when I had my child I made sure we moved into a "Good Neighborhood" one that didnt allow those dogs... "My husband and I have learned so much from the news". She actually has a Shar Pei, and I stated "Hmm how weird, you actually own the only breed of dog I have ever been severely bitten by..." Wasnt a mean comment... I was just saying what I was thinking (I did point out how the owner had no control over the dog tho... as do all the "stereotypical" Pittie owners". Then she contested that... like I said... ongoing and will never end.

Thanks guys... I think I am going to try to educate her more about Raw feeding... AND Pitties... being close minded is just so ridiculous.

A collage professor? It figures (not you Shalva, you're one of the exceptions)

It amazes me how closed minded many teachers are on the collage level, which of course is bleeding down into the Grade, middle and high school levels. You can have a perfectly well written, logical essay and get an "F" because the the teacher disagrees with your views.

Yeah, it is incredibly annoying. Ya know what is also annoying? When they flunk you for almost dying. One class I had we went to costa rica for . . 10 days I think, maybe it was longer. On day 3 I wasn't feeling to good, day 4 I could barely walk. They would not take me to a doctor because they didn't trust a doctor from there, the finally went out and found one when I was literally near death. I honestly thought I was going to die. Then he had the freaken nerve to flunk for not enough data and field work. I felt I should have only been graded on the days I was conscious and healthy for, not the for the entire thing. Grr, sorry this is still a sore issue for me! He even had told me that what I did do was the best outta the class (most detailed ect., I even drew pictures to go along with the field notes and stuff).

P.s. don't let strep throat go untreated for a week, especially in a tropical forest where the nearest doctor is 3 hours away and only has antibiotics you are allergic to.

Yes i think we are all too aware of the "bad owners" of Pits by now and the "bad owners" of all breeds(like people who dont feed thier dogs or excercise them)
There are bad owners throughout the spetrum of the dog owning world but college teachers should not voice an opinion on such matters!

Nessa you should have told her to go put some lipstick on.:D

Er, reminds me of my gov. and homeroom teacher. They both freaked when I found out I feed my dogs raw once a week, and love pitbulls.

Apparently, kibble has been around since the first domestic dog. Of course, everyone knows that!

And apparently, TV doesn't know crap anymore. Idiot box anyone?

Oh BTW, my gov. Teacher is the family 'pitbull' for talking to charity agencies on the phome.

I agree, ignorance is bliss.
They say not to judge someone before you know them...
Seriously, when was the last time the 10:00 news came on, and talked about some sort of Lassie dog? I don't think it's happened here lately. I wonder that if they realize that if there were no more bully breeds, they'd just move on to another breed...and another...and another...
Bugs me..
Good luck with your teacher though, but peer into one of her ears, make sure that there IS something between them.

The media adds a lot of unnecessary information too.

I read an article about a family who's dog attacked somebody (wasn't a pitbull) but at the end of the article it stated that they also had a pit bull...

Even things that don't apply to dogs...Yesterday I read an article about Heather Locklears arrest and at the end of the article it included that she has a kid or 2 kids or something. I don't see how any of that is relevant. They're just trying to give her a bad image. It's bad enough she got arrested and now the entire world knows and it's the latest gossip.

Can't give them wet or dry either... makes 'em kibble thirsty.

And since wet comes in cans and dry in paper, they become rabid, psycho dogs who will attack anything and everything made out of metal or plastic.

Please... if you feed your dogs wet/dry food, make sure you crate them before you read the newspaper. Especially if you wear glasses. The combination of eyeglasses (metal) and newspaper is just too much for some dogs... their DNA (plus feeding wet/dry) leads to kibble thirst and they just lose control.

Unless 231 people read this post in the next 2 hours, fourteen pit bulls will be fed 6 raw chicken necks. So unless you hate babies, you must immediately forward this post to as many people as you can.
