    Question about NKC

Ok I was looking for breeders today and came across a breeder whos dogs are both NKC and AKC? I know AKC is, but what is NKC all about? Is it a scam?

    Re: Question about NKC

A quick search turned up http://www.nationalkennelclub.com/ It looks sort of shady as a registry for say, Dalmatians, but it does have a lot of hound and hunting breeds and appears to have rules for trials related to those breeds. (But no show calendar, and some of the scam registries have started holding shows.) I think you'd have to do some more research.

    Re: Question about NKC

I looked at the website before I post this question because I had never heard of it before, and that is why I thought I would ask. I have pretty much already found a breeder (not this one), but I was just looking up info about the breed and seeing if I missed any breeders and this one came up, and so on...

    Re: Question about NKC

It is a pretty good registry, but you will find good and bad anywhere. There are several breeders competing in both (AKC/NKC) and other breeders competing in (UKC/NKC) too. There are several good, quality American Bulldog breeders who do a lot at the NKC events (and UKC too) as well as other organizations competitions (not registries but orgs that organize certain competition events). I would like to check out one of their shows for myself but there really isn't any close to me and I'm already traveling far for the shows I normally go to. Basically what I know is worth it since I've never done one of these. Maybe they'll be a club formed closer and I can try them for myself.

Well I found a Mini Bull Terrier breeder that has some of his dogs reg with NKC, and they were also on the list of breeds that they accept. He looked like a good breeder from what I saw, but got kinda thrown off by the NKC, but I emailed him and asked about his line and everything. NKC looks like it favors bully and working (hunting) breeds.

Well it all depends on the breeder (mostly anyway, not always) so it is good to find out. I think perhaps you are right a lot of bully people and hunters are into it. One reason I look into people that dual register (or triple) and compete in those different registries because they are probably going into different competition and possibly different rules, easier/harder to earn titles from one to the other, ect.

    Re: Question about NKC

The danger comes if the breeder is accredited ONLY through the NKC - as someone said, you'll find good and bad breeders everywhere.. the NKC isn't necessarily evil, however there are those who use the name to flash around to ill-informed people to make the puppies sound appealing. If the dogs are AKC registered and the breeder is just adding NKC as extra registry, there shouldn't be a problem.
    Got Toller?

On his webpage it states that his adults are AKC or either Duel Registered, but all of his adults have the AKC behind them.

    i don't understand the question.

the only relevant question by most registries is if their information is accurate.

the fact that a dog is registered with the AKC gives no clue as to the quality of the dog.

there are registries for cross-breed dogs now...people say it is stupid...that really isn't the issue...if the information is accurate and people want the info, it isn't a scam.

if there are registries that claim they only register quality dogs, then there would be other important and relevant questions.
