    Unhappy Scared of Central Heat

My newest baby is a merle female cocker named India and she is 6 months old. All is ok until the central heat kicks on. It not so much the sound of it as it is the scent that is scaring her. Soon as the air starts to blow she has her nose in the air and then she gets scared. I have tried to not make a big deal out of it. Is this something she will adjust to or is there something else I need to do?

You can try to yawn dramatically and noisily (not loudly) just before she starts to get anxious. But, she may be in a fear cycle... and she will eventually get used to it.

If it's a typical heater, then it has a little mildew, etc. that is burning off... we usually ignore the start of the season smells, but these are new for her.

Thanks...the unit is a good 20 years old. The other 5 cockers don't even pay attention to it.

I think she will get used to it as long as you don't make a big deal of it.

Faxon gets weirded out by the air clicking on too! She gets up and leaves the bed about 50% of the time now. She used to get much more nervous about it, pacing and staring into the kitchen. I just have always ignored it and she's getting better about it over time.

Oh, I would love to see pics of your little girl, your whole crew actually. I LOVE cockers! Mine have never been afraid of the furnace or the air kicking on but I do have one little girl that is afraid of the fan on the stove...smoke too, no clue why. We just ignore it when she gets scared of it as we don't want to feed her fear.
