    Happy Panting?

We've noticed this a few times lately with Mumble. We'll be inside, moderate temperature, not doing anything physically exerting, and he'll be panting. Normally I'd think maybe he was scared/nervous but everything about him looks relaxed and happy. Just now it happened while we were all just chilling on the couch, watching videos. Completely relaxed posture, mouth parted and panting.

A very quick google search suggests that sometimes dogs might pant when they're happy. I can't remember a dog doing this outside of exercise. Not that I think it's a problem I guess I'm just curious about other people's experiences.

Ludo pants all the time when he is happy. He started about two years ago. I've learned to differentiate between "happy" panting (a big smile and pant) and "stress" or "pain" panting (much more closed mouth but tongue out)

... In fact, some studies indicate that some dogs even 'laugh' while playing:

Very cool articles! I've notice that when playing he makes these breathy panting sounds. When we imitate them during play he gets really wound up.

My lab pants lightly when he's begging for table scraps. He looks really cute and apparently I have reinforced this!

My small dog pants when he's excited to see me after we've been apart.
