    Question Malamute or Husky?

Hi I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out what kind of dog I have. I found her on christmas day and the only things I know is that she's very young, possibly a malamute, husky or a mix (maybe even a hybrid).

She looks more husky to me but it is hard to tell with her laying down. Is she shaved? Malamutes are generally bigger and have alot more fur than huskies.

I'm not sure if she was shaved before i found her...Her fur doesn't seem like it's growing. She seems like she's not done growing cause she was a little smaller when I found her. Plus, I know you can't see it in the pictured but when she has her tail up it curls almost completely around until the tip of her tail is touching her back. I will try to get better pictures during the day. My room has terrible lighting at night.

You can generally have a good idea on the difference based on weight. Siberians tend to be closer to 60LB or less, Malamutes tend to be closer to 100LB.

Huskies can weigh from 35-60 lbs but I have also seem some really big Huskies.
    Height 20-23

Malamutes tend to weigh 70-85 lbs again with a lot more hair than Huskies.
    height 23-25 inches

I am still leaning toward her being a Husky. She just has the slender look to her like a Husky.

But she's not done growing. I will be taking her to the vet soon so I will find out her weight. I don't think she weighs all that much but like I said I can tell she's not done growing.

Mix and hybrid = same thing

I would say Husky mix. I tend to think she looks a little fine boned for a purebred Husky.

what I meant by hybrid was having wolf in her. I was looking at pictures on google and she looks a lot like a malamute/husky mix but I wasn't sure.

    Most Huskies have brown eyes.

Agreed. Regardless of the fact that she may have some growing left to do - she'd have to really beef up in order to be a Mal. Her features also look to be rather slender, which again doesn't lend to the Malamute breed.

I don't think you have to worry about any wolf blood either. A lot of people make that mistake with Sibes and Malamutes...but I don't see any signs of wolf influence.

And yes, Siberians do not have to have blue eyes. It's quite common to end up with a full brown pair.

    Re: Malamute or Husky?

I would say she could be all husky, but she does remind me of the husky/shepard mix we had when we were first married. See what the vet thinks though.

Have fun with her, she looks adorable!

Thanks I love her so much...though at times she can be a handful. She hates to be alone, and when she is alone she gets into everything (even if she's only left alone for 5 minutes. For being so young she doesn't have a whole lot of energy though she gets her spurts of energy.

    Re: Malamute or Husky?

I encounter this question every walk. I would put all my money on Husky.

(Husky, St. Bernard, Designer Mutt, Malamute, Malamute)

Oh, if she's been shaved you have a lot of work ahead of you. Ridik (the Husky) came from a frat house and was recenty shaved. His undercoat blew twice, once in July and once in September. On the second time the top coat shed almost as bad. It took a few weeks straight of brushing with a rake, and a metal comb. Sorry to hear the shaving part, just make sure to keep up with it. Never shave a double coat unless for health or matting reasons.

    Re: Malamute or Husky?

My aunt has a 16 year old husky.I would agree with everyone else on saying husky is the breed.they are beautiful dogs. So are malamutes. i always wanted a malamute but didn't think it would be fair cuz I live in such a warm climate.

That's a husky! Mals have a much wider earset and deeper chest. Have fun with her!
