    Can people carry Parvo virus?

A relative's new pup has parvo and has been at the vets this past week.
She mentioned the dog had to be kept away from other dogs for at least a month. I'm sure the vet will give her other instructions also.

I have a year old sheltie (who is up to date on shots). Am I safe to vist the new pup at his home or should I stay away also for a safe period of time. I don't know if it's tranferrable from dog to human to dog. Does that make sense?

I don't think a human can carry it - but I am not entirely sure so don't go by me. I was sort of in the same situation about 5-6 weeks ago. Ella was still really young and hadn't had all her shots. I had a friend who had a puppy that died of parvo. She wanted me to go to her house but I was afraid because her dog had been so sick and I didn't know if the virus was still around her house, or yard. I am uneducated on this so I opted to stay home and play it safe. I was so afraid of Ella coming upon any feces from the dog and I believe that can be how it is transferred.

I would opt for staying away from the relative's house until you get the all clear call.

A person can't "get" parvo, but you could carry it home on your clothes, hands, shoes, etc. It's best to stay away for now.

I agree with Lorina. Parvo is a very, very hard virus to kill and it is fairly easy to carry on your shoes, clothes, etc. I work in a facility that grows these viruses and Canine Parvo is one of our hardest-to-kill viruses.
