Is this normal? Puppy peeing question

Hello everyone!

Not sure if this should go in the training forum but...

My puppy seems to pee every 30min-1hour. I can take him outside and he will go pee, but I like to play with him after doing his business (thinking he can't possibly need to go again).

But...

He does

Pee in the Kitchen floor, Living room rug and even on me once while I was carrying him.

When I catch him doing it, I pick him up and give him a stern No and take him outside immediately. I sometimes think I smell like dog piss going to work

Of course if I don't catch him, I just ignore it. Afterall, its my fault...

Can someone please tell me its normal for a puppy to pee this much?

A little background info:
I just adopted him from a rescue organization and this is my first puppy as an adult so I'm very ignorant about dogs in general. I bought books but they just don't tell you every question I have. I'm going to the vet this weekend so he can continue to get his shots and a general checkup.

Thanks for reading!

Please don't feel ignorant! The fact that you're asking these questions is more than what some owners do. To answer your question, yes, puppys can pee that much...especially after being excited with a play session. Bladder control is gained only with age. As a rule of thumb, take you dog's age in months, add 1, and that's about how many hours your dog should be expected to hold it's bladder. Of course these rules change if the pup gets excited or feeds. Personally, I wouldn't let my pup roam around on its own unitil I can trust it, and it has learned that the crate is a good place. For Elsa, at 8 months she earned my trust. Every dog is different, so there is nothing wrong with taking it slow. This is also a good question to ask your vet. Good luck!
