Olive oil daily to reduce shedding?

I read on another site that you could control dog hair shedding by giving your dog a teaspoon of olive oil in their food each day. Is this true? Has anyone else tried it? I know olive oil is good for humans and I can imagine for dogs that it would be good for their skin and coat making them more moist and shiny but, does it really reduce shedding? If so how much should I give my 11 lb Female Pomeranian? Thank you so much everyone!

I can't say it's really reduced Strauss's shedding (German Shepherd Dog), but it has helped a bit with his itchies

I've heard that it can help a LITTLE. What really helps reduce shedding is a high quality food and occasionally brushing your dog's coat. I give my boy fish oil tablets also which helps to make his coat soft and shiny, it also helps with shedding (but still just a LITTLE). Definitely diet and grooming.

Abbylynn, a Dobie/Rott mix had skin issues when I first rescued her. I use fish oil, vitamin E, good quality dog food, and grooming. It all helps to minimize skin and coat issues. :) Her shedding when she is not blowing her coat has greatly improved. :)

Sadie gets Salmon Oil on her food a few times a week. Not sure it is helping with shedding, but her coat sure is purtty shiny :) and sometimes, not always, it is the only way we can get her to eat!! lol

and brushing? Sadie hates it! loves to be combed tho, but i feel the brush would get more out of her. But if she lets me do anything, that is what im going to do, so the comb it is. :)
