    She refuses to poop outside..

I have a 6 month old Husky/German Shepard mix. She does fine with peeing on a puppy pad and with peeing outside, but she refuses to poop outside or on the puppy pad. I do everything I've read to try to get her to go outside, but she poops in the same place on my carpet every time, whether I'm looking or not (She doesn't get far when I'm looking though!) - When I do catch her, I take her out immediately, and she'll hold it. She refuses to poop outside! Her brother (my friend has him) does the exact same thing.
    Help??

Re: She refuses to poop outside..

We had the same problem with Vincent...I think he's just poop shy. We've sort of established a routine for him at this point. He typically poops twice a day now, once on his morning walk and the second time on his evening walk. I walk him on the same "course" every day (we have a large neighborhood behind our apartment so it works out well) and I make sure to bring him to his "bathroom" on the way back every single time. We've sort of designated the last street we walk down before we head back to the apartment as his bathroom. As soon as we start on that length of street I tell him "go potty." He now goes to the bathroom in close to the same spot every single time (there are a couple of places he prefers to poop on this stretch of street, but he's consistent in going to those exact ones). I make sure to praise him every single time he goes. It took us a while to get him to go twice a day. For a while we were only getting once a day. I think taking him on the walk (it's usually about 30 minutes) helps a bit to get things moving and shaking down there, so he's ready to go by the time we get to his normal place.

The only unfortunate thing is, though, that unless we go to that place, I typically can't get him to go anywhere else. He'll go at the dog park, but that's mostly because he's off leash and he can walk a good distance away from me to actually go. He'll also go at his "grandma's" house, but there he's typically on a 15 ft line tied to a pole, so he also has a bit of privacy to go where he wants to go.

But yea, I'd suggest setting up a routine with a walk and making one area the designating pooping area. It's a bit obnoxious just because your dog isn't really all that versatile when it comes to pooping, but it has worked for us really well thus far. It just takes time, lots of praise and patience.

Are you taking your pup outside on a leash? My friend's pup had exactly the same problem and it turned out to be a privacy issue . Now she lets him out without a leash when she knows he has to go..and shuts the door on him. She can see all of her yard..which is secure. Hey presto he pooped! It took about 15 minutes the first time and after that it was fine. It sounds like you need to get on top of this problem pronto as 6 months it was quite old enough to get the message. This may not be practical for you but it worked for my friend so it might work for you.

Also are you cleaning your carpet with an enzyme cleaner like nature's miracle? If not the smell is still there.

You can also take some of his poop and put it where you want him to go. The smell of it will attract him.

    Great advice.

Dogs wANT to poop outside by instinct if they can do so when they want. The key is making them want to hold it until they go outside.

The let em loose outside for an hour each time in the yard is a good idea and putting the poop in the yard beforehand to let em know it is okay is also a great idea.

if else fails, keep him in a somewhat confined kennel(big enough to turn around in while standing) and then take them out to poop and pee at decent intervals until he understands that it is okay to do it where he likes best... outside.
one other thing to watch for is if he eats his poo... and if so, make sure you go out and dispose of his poop in the back yard each time before he comes back in and licks your hand, face... ugh.
