Hi,
My Golden Retriever came last thursday, he is 11 weeks.
House training is going well i hope, that means we go out with him A LOT to do it outside. He has peed inside sometimes, and we caught him in the act (it happens so fast, not easy to distinguish if he is just smelling around or looking for a pee smell), and said NO NOT INSIDE in a low harsh voice.
1) Question, is the above scenario normal? ( Im thinking he probably just cant hold it in and just has to go right then and there coz his muscles aint that strong yet. Hubby does not want to crait train him, he rather wants to supervise him around. At night he sleeps beside us on the floor near the bed. No accidents so far. And we take him out 3 am to pee, and 530)
Another scenario, when we have to leave him alone at home, we leave him in his puppy room, an isolated room, he gets a cong stuffed then. So far so good. But I tried to leave him there today while i was doing stuff in the house, and he would not stop whining and barking a little, i said sussssh. He was got in playmode with his bone and started barking, and kind of thought I was playing with him. So I went inside and read the newspaper there, while he was jumping me, I ignored him until he settled down. then I went out again and he whined a little. When he was calm I let him out.
2) Question 2, Does he behave like this too while we are gone? Is he maybe whining and barking all the time? (maybe i did the mistake not stuffing the cong well enough) I did not hear any whining and barking when we leave or come back. Does he just whine coz he knows that I am at home?
3) Question 3, On Dog 101 it says a Golden Retriever that displays any sign of aggression is a fault. When he goes into very very Playmode he growls, never bites or anything, does this mean aggression? He also barks at things, like the brush, i tried to brush him. So I stopped forcing it, and introduced the brush over the past 3 days slowly... and now it is okey to brush him. We build him a fence in the garden, he is still kind new to it. He sleeps there when tied with his leash so we made him a fence instead, he is still kind of barking at the fence when you leave him in there. This is the 1st fence day, I will try to stay with him in there in the afternoon. to get more familiar.
Thank you this is long sorry I will post pictures on the other forum.
