My puppy sleeps in too late

Hello, I have a 5 month old Maltese mix her mom is a Maltese/Poodle and we believe her dad may be a chihuahua. She is a pretty normal puppy but she does have separation anxiety.

She was crated and always hated it but would sleep in it at night. A few weeks ago there was a storm and I let her sleep in my bed and she hasn't gone back to her crate (my fault) but I don't mind her sleeping with me.

When she was sleeping in her crate she would wake up around 6:30-7 am.

Now that she sleeps with me she wakes up around 10:30 am. I leave to go to work at about 11 am and once she sees me get dressed she'll wake up. If I don't have work and stay in bed she stays until I wake her up. Once she's awake she eats and plays like normal. She goes to sleep around 9-10 pm.

I never thought it was unusual until I tried to search for other owners with a similar experience, I found one article after searching dogs who sleep in but it wasn't much help.

She is vaccinated and the vet says she is very healthy.

I should add that if she hears others in the house awake she wakes up earlier.
My thoughts are that because of her anxiety she would wake up earlier in her crate because she wanted to be with someone. Also if we have a busy day at home she won't nap as much because I think she has FOMO (fear of missing out) so she may be more tired.

I'm wondering if anyone has any thoughts or maybe someone has a similar experience?

my puppy allowed me to sleep in virtually right away, from 9 weeks old till like 9:30 or later in the morning, whenever I decided to get up. (on non work days, on work days I have to get up much earlier)

Ok thank you! The post that I saw made it seem so unusual that a puppy would sleep in.

Do you have much trouble if you let him/her sleep in on somedays and not others? My 5 month old, would be happy to sleep in any day if I let him. But like you I wake up early on work days. I would like to know if it is fine to let him sleep in on the weekends without affecting his morning routine on work days.

Kuma doesn't move until I do, he'll happily sleep until 11:30-12:00 if I do, lol.

Hello! This thread is kinda old but sleeping approx 12-14 hours a day is actually perfect for a dog!

Honestly be HAPPY that your dog sleeps in! My older girl has always slept until we get up. But then we got Ben, our younger dog. He used to wake me up at 5am come hell or highwater. Thankfully now that he's 3, he lets us sleep in but fat chance of sleeping past about 7am.

All my dogs get up around 6 am, go outside, then come back in to go back to sleep again. The only one that has changed is Bonnie. She is the only one who still sleeps in a crate and since winter is here, she stays in bed in the morning. I open her crate door when I let the others out but she never moves until around 8 am. I don't blame her as it is really cold outside and she has a nice warm bed.

I have a six-month-old Heeler and although he'd love to wake up at 7am, sometimes I just cant get up that early. I do wake up to let him out to pee, but then we both go back to sleep for a few hours. If I put him in his crate again, he'll sleep in. So it's not that weird!
