Dory has been consistently going outside for a few weeks now...a couple of accidents in the house, but not a big deal.
We are supposed to get a ton of rain tonight. So today I went out to switch the location of her "spot". It was at the far end of my backyard, but I'm realizing, with the snow melting now, that it is really muddy over there and the water just puddles like crazy. My property slants in that direction and I should have known that wasn't where the spot should go....With everything frozen these past few weeks, it hasn't been a problem.
So I moved her spot to higher ground, in a different corner of the backyard.
I raked all leaves and sticks clear, outlined the area with bricks...just like before. But I threw down some cat litter, thinking it would help keep the mud down. I'd like to use mulch or gravel, but she might eat it. She is very easily distracted out there. But the litter stuff is now freaking her out and all she does is sniff.
So tonight it is pouring and my poor dog has to pee. We go out to try the new spot and she is totally confused. Plus the rain is getting her all excited so she doesn't concentrate. I'm an idiot. She is really, really trained to go over to the other spot. Out of desperation, I went over there so she could pee. She is down for the night now.
Did I blow it? I thought I could just train her to make the switch, but I moved too fast for her, I think. And the stupid rain doesn't help. Should I just go back to the bog over there, or can we make this work?
