    Pom confused about signals

We hadn't practiced for a loooong time due to many factors. Probably like 6 months. When I came back to it I was surprised how much Sybbie had retained. it was iffy however if she ever really knew it or was fooling me. We hadn't gotten very far when we stopped in June, just sit, down, stay, LLW but she has started to pull for the first time ever and so we needed to get back to it. It has been frigid cold here though so we haven't practiced outside which is where the issue is. We also went back to our "go to bed" command which she has trouble with. If I add any distance to it at all she loses it, gets frustrated and starts barking. What should I do then? (I clicker train) I usually wait a bit and see if she'll start offering things but her default "I'm confused I'll try this" move is down. However this afternoon she did a go to bed when I asked for a down. Not sure how to make it more clear. I'm not sure if she knows the words or hand signals at all or if she is just really good at reading me and fools me into thinking she knows most of the time. Is there a place for withholding a click here and if so when? I didn't click for the go to bed when I asked for down but I felt mean like she had finally made a connection to going on her mat and then I confused her. She seems pretty happy with the whole game, but I'm not sure anymore if I'm teaching or just confusing and I'm not sure what to do differently.

General suggestion - when a dog is frustrated, the usual suggestion is to back up one step. Also, you might consider 'starting at the beginning' and re-teach the behaviors, as reinforcement. I'm not sure if you should re-teach Down first, ignoring when she goes to mat instead ... or vice versa.

I would start working on it with you right beside her bed, and jackpot when she does it correctly. Every 2-3 correct responses in a row, I would take a teeny tiny step back - a few inches at most. Repeat. If she offers more than two wrong responses in a row, I'd make it easier again, and then take a break after the next correct response.
