    Yellow discharge in tear ducts.

    Hello everyone.

Yesterday and today I've noticed that Lacie (my 9 month old Spitz) has had some yellow discharge from her eyes. I've been cleaning it with a wet, warm cloth, and trying to study up on what it could mean. From what I see, it means infection. Should I take her to the vet right away, or should I just see if it clears up on its own?

I think she may have gotten something from the river near our house. I took her and her best friend (a 6 month old Cocker/Pinscher mix) to the park Tuesday, and they were both so thirsty they ran down and drank from the river before I could stop them. Both her and her puppy friend have yellow discharge now.

I'm a worried parent, I worry about everything, which is why I need your guys' help.

    Thanks for your time!

How often does the discharge appear? Is it runny, thick? How yellow is it? Having discharge is normal, but its how much, how often, and what colour that determines whether its ok or not. Do you see it in both eyes or just one? Are there any other symptoms your puppy is showing?

The discharge is there maybe two or three times a day. She kind of has runny eyes naturally, but it's usually clear. The color is yellow...yellow. xD It's not bright or dark, just your run of the mill yellow. I've noticed it in both eyes. She's showing no other symptoms so far, and is happily playing with the cat at the moment.

I did notice in the other puppies'...feces, there were some little white balls. Though it could have just been something she ate. Lacie hasn't gone yet, so I'm not sure if she'll have the same thing.

There is any number reasons why you would see yellow discharge from the eyes, none of which are normal. You need to get your baby to the vet and so does your friend with the other puppy.

its probably some form of an eye infection, which can by incredibly contageous. Get her to the vet pronto, I can almost assure you they will give you some opthamic antibiotic/steroid drops, and this will clear up in a day or two after you use it. Dont wait until this thing is out of control and the eye is closed shut. Put the flames out now while its easy. The white balls could be worms but you have to get a stool sample and deworm.

I would guess eye infection or allergies. Deeken went through three rounds of steroid eye cream before I stopped that and landed on allergies. His are environmental and easily solved with wild blueberries. You need to see a vet pronto but keep in mind that if the discharge comes back, there may be reasons for it other than an eye infection
