UTI in old beagle

Hello All!
I have a 10-year old beagle who developed urinary tract infection last year about this time. By the time the vets diagnosed it and started treatment, he had begun to show blood clots and it was March. He's since had a series of antibiotics--initially by trial and error. Every time the antibiotic was stopped on signs of recovery and after 2-3 days, the problem restarted. Then, a urine test for sensitivity was done and an antibiotic indicated by the test was tried. Same result. After another sample was tested, a cocktail of 2 antibitics was tried. This worked well. So after 20 days, the doc decided to stop them. Again, a relapse. So treatment resumed.

This morning, he suddenly passed bloody (red) urine plus some red tissue. Was OK till another such episode in the afternoon.I can talk to the doc only tomorrow evening.
So any help, even if just possibilities will help.

He ate something on our morning walk and on return gulped down a lot of water. Is it caused by ingestion of any kind of food?

Otherwise, he seems lively and eager for his fav foods

Thank You

Yes,a scan was done and bladderstones detected. The X-ray was poorly done, but the Vet said, stones should have been visible. So probly X-ray transparent. It was after the urine culture test that the antibiotic cocktail was prescribed.
For all his troubles Ditto enjoyed his morning walk (nearly 2 km) and slurped up his glass of milk with gusto.
I've been told that urinary infections in dogs can't be cured and it is the end. I only want him to enjoy his life without pain.
AND THANKS SO MUCH for the prompt response. It's good to hear afriendly voice. (I live by myself.)

Has an ultrasound of the bladder been done? How about a urine culture?

Urinary Tract infections CAN be cured, and stones can be removed and managed fairly easily with diet.

I'd go get a second opinion. You need to find out what the vet plans on doing about the bladder stones.

UTIs and stones are cured all the time... daily in fact. There IS more that you can do for your beloved friend, and if your current vet is telling you anything different, then please seek another opinion.

You can't remove them with diet, but you can help reduce the chances of getting bladder stones/crystals with diet. There are quite a few threads on here about it. Ck this and the food forum. Distilled water, cranberry capsules, dog food that has blueberry (I forget the brand). Limiting the calcium.
