How often do your dogs go to the vet?

I've been a dog owner for less than a year (since last November), and I'm thinking I might be making more trips to the vet than is usual. Don't get me wrong, they've all been necessary (although one was probably an overreaction). So, excluding shots and annuals, here's the number of visits so far (in less than a year's time).

    Cupid: 3
    Clayton: 1

How many non-shot/annual vet visits do you make per year?

They pretty much go if they need to. I work at a vet so they've been there more often than necessary because they often just come to get used to being there.

At work we recommend people come once to twice a year for an exam and vaccines, but otherwise I wouldn't bring any of my animals unless I had any kind of issue.

Between september and now we've probably been to the vet about 6 times. 2 of those were for routine exams. one was to get antibiotics for an infection he got on his paw. one was to get antibiotics for getting bit and one was for them to look at his teeth, and the other one was a health check form that our vet had to fill out for our animal assisted therapy group.

It all depends. One of our dogs gets regular shots for HD. According to my online checkbook:

    2003 - 15 visits (2 dogs, 3 cats)
    2004 - 8 visits (3 dogs, 3 cats) foster dog
    2005 - 11 visits (2 dogs, 2 cats) cat died
    2006 - 14 visits (3 dogs, 2 cats)
    2007 - 12 visits (4 dogs, 2 cats)
    2008 - 10 visits (4 dogs, 2 cats)
    2009 - 5 visits so far. (4 dogs, 2 cats)

    None unless I think there's a problem.

Cupid went in for bladder-stone removal surgery, suspected blockage, and irritated ears (all separate visits).

Clayton went in because of loose stool issues.

For a yearly checkup and shots and for any medical problems as they occur.

    2007 Kiri - 3 times: 2 x vaccines; 1 x ear infection
    2008 Kiri: 2 times: 1 x vaccines; 1 x attack by dog
    Schweppie (rescued cat in Aug '08) - 2: 1 x vaccines; 1 x diarrhea
    2009 Kiri - 5 times: 2 x urinalysis; 1 x xray and culture and sensitivity; 1 x
    ultrasound; 1 x bloodwork
Schweppie - 1 time overnight for diarrhea, tested for FelV; not eating
My Little Guy (cat adopted in Dec '08) - 1 time for general checkup

I figure, all my pets will be healthy by June 17th as this is the date I am eligible for discounts at the clinic where I work. Sigh...of course, they get free vaccines but I'm not vaccinating my pets this year....

Once a year for annual blood work for the adult dogs. Every 3 yrs. for Rabies, although now that they're 8 yrs. old, no more vaccinations, period.

They haven't needed a vet for anything else for over 6 years, until last Nov. when Maddy got into it with a Raccoon, and needed to have surgery and antibiotic therapy. The puppy just goes in to get weighed (for HeartGuard), and won't need to see the vet until the next Rabies vac.

My 27 yr. old cat and 4 yr. old cat don't visit the vet for anything, and haven't for years.

Bella is 1 year old and the only thing she has seen the vet for is puppy shots/exams and being spade. I take her in once a month with me and weigh her before I buy her intercepter so I get the right dosage. Shes right on the edge weight wise. Otherwise she goes back in August for her next exam, vacs and rabies.
