    Bath before or after neuter?

My little boy Aussie/beagle mix (a rescue) is recovering from red mange, and as such I've been giving him a bath every 3 days or so, which helps SO much to help him from scratching all of the time. He's usually pretty itchy after 2-3 days.

Technically, I give him a shower, so he's not submerged in water at all.

He's strong enough to be neutered now, which I have scheduled for Friday morning. My question is, how long will he need to heal before taking a shower again? Are we talking a couple of days, or a couple of weeks?

I'd bathe him before the surgery.

Bathe him before and then you'll have to wait for his stitches to be removed after

Bathe him before but if you are using any type of parasite killing shampoo, let the vet know.

Definitely bathe him before. If he continues to itch, use tea tree spray on him to relieve the itching. BAthing him that often will also dry out his skin which is not going to help his itching at all.

    agreed.

the sutures stay in 10-14 days typically (so no baths). ask your veterinarian about the itching in between. if he's bad about licking/scratching/chewing get him an elizabethan collar (cone) so that he won't chew out the sutures!
