My JRT has been acting strange since about 1 this morning. She got up and used the bathroom in the bedroom last night and all seemed well. Well I guess she got up sometime and used it again and it is pretty runny. Then we made a trip outside at 5. She tried to go but only a few drips came out and I heard gas. I have took her out a few since and nothing but gas. She threw up once and it was a small amount of bile. I have a vet appt in 45 mins. She looks fine and doesnt seem to have a temp. After she threw up she seemed to feel much better and is now making up for some lost sleep. I wasnt aware until a few mins ago but I guess my dad gave her vienia saugages last night. Could this cause all of this? She just came out of heat about a month ago and that really scares me about pyo so we are still going to the vet just hopeing to get some opinions til then.

Ok so we just got back from the vet and they did bloodwork. Everything came back ok other than a slight liver infection again. They said that wouldnt have cause the runny stool and stuff. So they gave me metronidazole and sucralfate and a shot of anti imflametory and some science diet ID for 4 days. If it continues into tomorrow we go back for an xray but she hasnt shredded any toys lately and there isnt much else she could have ate. She is now happly sleeping to make up for the rough night. So hopely it clears up today and it was just the junk he gave her. I got some great advice to get some yogert bites so he can give her a few of those while he is eating so that it is something good for her and he doesnt feel guilty for not sharing. So I am going to hangout with her the rest of the day and try to keep myself calm and not worring. Anyone ever use any of those meds or the food? Wont switching foods make her stool even runnier?

Ok well she did better through the night, She hasnt thrown up since yesterday morning but she is still runnny. I didnt get to start the meds yesterday so Iam guessing thats whywe havent seen it get dramatically better. I called the vet back morning and she wants me to bring her in for xrays. I am terrified, I dont really have the money and my parents are telling me not to worry about it but how can I not. Wouldnt she be more sick acting if she had something blocking her? I really dont know what she could have ate that could even do it. She is never left unsupervised and I havent seen her eat anything but dog food and she hasnt shredded any toys? Pls any advice? Should I just start the meds and give it til this afternoon or should I go on in for the xray now?

I took a stool sampleout there this morning and everything came back good so the vet said to start her on the meds now and if the runniness doesnt go away by 4 or 5 to bring her in for the xray or if she vomits any to bring her right out there. Would a stool sample even show anything for a forigen body?

No, a stool sample would usually not show evidence of a foreign body, unless pieces of it were showing up. A lot depends on the lab your Vet has and how complete the fecal test was. Usually, they are looking for parasites, colitis, etc.

I personally always put my dogs on a bland diet of boiled white rice and either boiled chicken or boiled burger, not being a fan of Science Diet, and it usually clears up in a few days.

Good luck and please keep us posted.

The I/D is a very bland diet. It is like cooking chx and rice. The metro. is a great gut antibiotic and the Carafate is a stomach coater. These are all great medications. When you say liver infection I assume you mean pancreatitis. These meds will help if it is pancreatis. Even if it is not this, these med should help. The stool may take 24 to 48 hours to start to see a difference. Did your DVM have you fast her for an amount of time before starting the bland diet? You may want to start small amounts of food every couple hours to make sure she is holding it down. Like a spoonful at a time. Yes these signs can mean many things from foriegn body to garbage gut. This is a great medical protocal. Hang in there!

No they said it wasnt pancreatitis, everytime she comes out of heat she will start licking herself and hunching everything in sight. So we went to the vet last time and the tested her urine and it showed a slight infection. Well she just came out of heat about 4 weeks ago so she started doing the samething. Her blood test cameback slightly elevated for the liver.I told the vet about the past account and she remembered and said it could an ovary issue so she will be getting spayed in a few monthes. I just started the meds. this morning so we are going to give it til tomorrow morning and if nothings change we are going for xrays. She is full of energy and eating and drinking normal and not throwing up so the diaherra is the only problem at this time. From what I've read the liver issue could be causeing the diaherra. and she never mentioned fasting her at all and she is holding down food normally. The vet said to feed her a can of that a day but she never eats that much when she is healthy so the half a can yesterday was a normal amount for her.

One more thing, she seems to hate the science diet stuff and will only eat it when she realizes nothing better is coming her way. Would it be ok to boil my own chicken and rice rather than use the ID. I figured she might miss out on the vitamins and stuff in prescription food.

Well, I'm glad she is doing better but I would continue to monitor it, and contact your vet for advice about the meds before stopping them.

As for the diet, it's just my personal opinion/decision to do boiled chicken (or beef) and rice, over Science Diet, and it's what my vets recommend first after withholding food for 12-24 hours. Since I am new, you all don't know me, but I am well aware of all the Science Diet prescriptions and what they are prescribed for (having worked for Vet's for many years), I just don't like what's in them. That's the biggest complaint from dog owners to the vet's who push them is "my dog hates it" (maybe these dogs have their own forum we don't know about and compare notes - lol!)

She is doing much better today,we went outside and she used the bathroom. It was pretty much back to normal. I talked to the vet and we are to finish the meds and food. I have about 5 days worth of the prescription food left. I was wondering though I guess I need to slowly transfer her onto normal food again huh? I was feeding her ceasers before and yea I know it isnt the greatest but she really liked it. But since we are going to have to slowy change anyways I figured what better time to switch to something of greater qaulity. Now the question is what? There are some many foods on the market that is overwhelming and I wonder if I have never had a problem with the ceasers why change? I have fed her wellness chicken and sweet potatoe formula and she seemed to like it but I never made the full switch. Any suggestions? She currently also gets evo dry kibble.
