Help my 7 month old puppy is sick

We took her to the vet yesterday who was not overly concerned. However, I am.
Since Monday she's either vomited (mostly a small amount 'bile like') or had diarrhea. Then she stopped pooping for 2 days and last night pooped (in the bathroom without us knowing) a huge pile of poop...she's back to doing a little water poop or having grumbling tummy...and that little bile.

She WANTS to eat. She is always looking for anything on the ground she can snap up. We're just feeding kibble since she got sick. (Free feeding). I think the other day she had a bad can of Iams OR has a tummy bug from some river water she swallowed.

It's frustrating and worrying. Otherwise she acts 'fine' and wants to play.
I thought it was stress related...my husband (her buddy) has been sick with a bad cold for a week, now I have it) and tempers are flaring...(add a sick dog on top of it). I think his (husband's) yelling upsets her.

Any clues or ideas? The vet took $41 to say 'um, bring her back if she still has problems.' I didn't go (my husband did).

My dog was FINE till she was spayed in April. Now she's weirder and weirder...

    Any advice or comments?

She's a pointer lab mix. We usually feed a quality kibble (Canidae or California Natural) & yes too much other 'crap '(people food) which I am cutting out...I just want her to get better.

    Thanks,
I am a very worried mom..

I know you are worried. I don't know what to suggest, I wouldn't even dare try to guess what's wrong with your puppy. Sounds like stress could be an issue (which it would be if yelling is going on...dogs are sensitive to that) and that she's getting a lot of different types of food given to her. Feed her only one type of kibble, no people food, and treats sparingly (and you should know which types she can handle). The spaying didn't make her weird. she's just growing up. My girl, Roe, has changed over time too. Sometimes food allergies develop later (I'm not saying she has allergies, I'm just saying as an example).

If she drank river water, perhaps giardhea could be a possibility, it's hard to detect sometimes. did the vet say ANYTHING??? Bland diet? I would put her on a bland diet. Boiled (poached) chicken and rice if she still has watery diarrhea. I would do this for a week, then phase SLOWLY ONE type of kibble that you know she handles well. Canidae and California Natural are very different types of food.

I tried posting to this earlier but my internet gave out.
I'm apt to think it's either stress or possibly Giardia (comes from dirty water) - I also agree with Mac that I'd try a bland diet (chicken and rice is good) to try to get her stomach "back to normal" then work a good kibble into the mix and cut out the "junk" foods she's eating (not sure what the definition of that is as I do feed mine vegetables and meat and such leftovers)
On another note, if you don't like your vets diagnosis and there's still a problem (diarrhea isn't just something that happens...something causes it!) I'd get a second opinion. Having a vet say to come back if they are still having problems isn't exactly a warm and fuzzy feeling...any animal can get dehydrated fairly fast if they have diarrhea...so I'd either take her back to the vet or get another opinion. I'd also have her checked for Giardia (stool sample) as it does cause diarrhea.
I'd be really wary about the "wait and see" way the vet looks at it...that just really concerns me...because I'm not a patient person and I don't like to "wait and see" I want to know
If at first you don't succeed, destroy all evidence that you ever tried.

Thanks for the replies. My husband took her to the vet but after waiting an hour, he forgot half or what she said...
She told him to feed rice and beef or chicken if we wanted..
If the dog was still sick, bring in a sample.
She alternates between runny poop and 'cow pies'...ugh. Last night she was up every 2 hours. I put newspaper in the bathroom and she used that once when we both (hubby and I) didn't hear her (we are both wiped out from a bad cold). I am like a zombii with no sleep and I can't talk to him because he just yells how tired and sick he is..!

I will have to talk to him and he's going to have to bring her back to the vet. I just want my dog better. Other than this poop thing, she acts 'normally' and loves to play, romp at the park, and swim at the park...

Hi gypsy22- Puppies can be a worry. My pup is now 14 months. I could write a book on the period of time you are now going through. Did the Vet look at the pups stool and test it?? The stool needs to be tested because if the stool is infected, you can feed all the rice and chicken you want- it won't help.

Pups eat everything!!! have to keep a eye on them RTC. A 7 month old may still be teething so they look for things to chew and ingest. Foreign object can really make them sick.

Hope things get cleared up. Bowel issues can be exhausting to figure out. Hang in!!!

Thanks all. Crazydays, your dog is cute and has similar coloring to my Luna. (is yours a springer spaniel?)

Anyhow, the vet called. They tested Luna's poop. No worms and no bacteria.

She's doing better. I think she might have just had a bad stomach. Her poop is not 100% solid but not as horrible as it was. She's eating. She went nuts over the chicken I made. We're still being careful to feed her mainly kibble with some chicken. I am not feeding her something (a certain treat) and so far she's been okay. I am going to throw them out and not get them again.

Just an update...I took Luna off that California kibble and gave her Beneful again and she is doing just fine (I am forgetting 'premium food' she doesn't like them).

I am free feeding her mainly now.

Her poop is perfect and she is not vomiting anymore or messing the house. I give her a bit of people food with her meals once in awhile (left over chicken or beef). I also limit her food. After 7 I do not fill the bowl anymore.

    Thanks for your nice comments!
