Small squishy lump under dog's skin

I found a small lump under my dog's skin on her ribs today, if I had to call it either hard or squishy I'd say squishy and its no bigger than a grape. She's had an abscess before and is about 7 or so years old, I'm just wondering if this is something that should be urgently looked at by a vet, or if I should just keep an eye on it for a while and if I notice any changes take her to the vet?

I would make an appointment with the vet. I had a dog that started developing fatty tumors at around 7 years old. They were squishy and would seem to pop up over night. The vet would pull some fluid out to test it and they were just fatty tumors. The dog wasn't in pain because she had them. Only two were removed, one in her armpit and one on her chest that would get raw from her lying on the pavement. Hopefully it's just a fatty tumor.

For peace of mind, I'd take your dog to the vet. Can you move the lump around with your fingers, or does it seem to be attached to something under the skin? If you can move it around easily with your fingers, that's usually a sign that it's a fatty tumor, but not a certainty. Some breeds are predisposed to them, like labs, especially as they grow older.

I'll see how she's doing in the morning, if it grew or she seems at all affected by it, or if I get to be a little too worried about it, I'll take her to the vet. Thanks for all the replies, if anyone has anything else to add, feel free to continue replying.

Shep is a Lab mix and has lots of lumps. He was even born with one on the top of his head. The Vet does a simple needle biopsy when a new one appears, and they've all been benign fatty tumors. If it doesn't change, then I suggest calling the Vet to ask if there's a need to come in or can you wait until the next scheduled visit.
