My dog is ill and won't eat!

Hello everyone thankyou for taking the time to read this, I have a 10 year Westie who up to 3 weeks ago has had wonderful health it started one night out the blue while we were asleep he started being sick, he was sick 7 or 8 that night and about 15 times the next day, we decided to take him to the vets when he lost interest in his food and was drinking a lot of water, he drunk a whole bowl then lay on his bed and it all camping pouring out his mouth, vet thought there might be a blockage but he had blood test and X-rays and nothing showed up, vet said his kidneys and liver ect were fine they kept him for two night on a drop and antibiotics when he came home he seemed a lot better and was eating his food but and started to go down hill again vet has put him on some more antibiotics but he has lost loads of weight won't eat anything but is drinking a lot of water he has had diarrhoea but we haven't seen him poo the last few days vet said to give him until he finishes his course and if he don't pick up its either surgery or put him to sleep and we can't afford surgery as we have already paid out all we can we don't want to let him go as a few small times ie visiting the vet and seeing other dogs for a minute or two he has perked up with his tail wagging or when we get home he seems happy but then goes to his bed and sleeps a lot, also he can't walk for a long time nor can he get up the stairs please help xxx

I’m sorry you and you’re baby are going through this. It’s so hard when you can’t find a way to help them feel better.

I’m assuming since your vet did blood work, they also ruled out pancreatitis. The only issues I can think of that wouldn’t be picked up in bloodwork or abdominal x-rays are perhaps a fungal or viral infection, ingesting something ‘toxic’, intolerance to something in his food, or a tumor. Based on the symptoms you shared, I keep thinking kidney issue.

Are you trying a bland diet of rice and boiled chicken? Is the proposed surgery exploratory? Is an ultra sound an option for you?

It is summertime in most of the united states, but, you do not mention where you are located. A 4DX Snap test is done to rule out heartworm, lyme disease, erlichia and anaplasma. It could be lyme if he shows stiffness and vomiting.

I've took my dog to the vets 4 times and they can't tell me what's wrong!! My dog is on nisamox, I've been reading stories on here about owners who's pets are also on this and they have the same symptoms as my finny, he hasn't eaten for a week now, he has diarrhoea , he's very withdrawn and sleepy, I'm thinking of stopping the tablets and see if his appetite comes back has anyone else experienced this? We have run out of money so we can't take tests further xx

Why is he on nsamox? Personally, I would stop it and see what happens. Could he be any worse?

I understand how hard this was for all of you ... I am so very sorry.

    http://www.petloss.com/rainbowbridge.htm

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
