We have a 13 1/2 yo lab/hound mix. He has been very healthy his entire life but since he turned 13 he has had numerous issues. The most concerning are his neck abscesses.
Took him to the vet last night as he was showing the signs again and he has a very large abscess on his neck. It is in a slightly different location than the original two but it is significantly larger. He is now on antibiotics, Epsom salt compresses and a spray. We have to go back next Monday and determine if a biopsy is in order.
The vet is very concerned. Charlie has not been in any fights and is not around any animals that bite. He spends limited amounts of time outside as he can't breathe well so we only let him out to use the bathroom and then right back in (it is already too hot in TX). There is no opportunity for a foreign body to have gotten in there.
He is currently on 200 mg of Tramadol plus Meloxicam daily. He is also covered in fatty tumors. I can tell this abscess is hitting him hard, he wouldn't go to his food bowl this morning but did eat when I brought it over to him.
Anyone have experience with this? Everything I have read online refernces a bite wound or foreign object and neither of those fit. Anything else we could be looking for?
Thanks for your help!
